LESSON: Articles[Children, follow the instructions and try to understand today’s lesson.][ Do not write the instructions.]

In STD-I, we have studied a—an and their uses. We know that a—an are used before nouns that are only one in

number. We use a before noun that begins with a consonant. Like, a balloon. We use an before noun that begins with a vowel. Like, an oven.

All common nouns have a or an before them. The words a and an are called articles.

___________________________________________________________Now, let us learn about the, another article.

When there is only one of its kind in the world, we use the before the noun. For example, the Qutub Minar, the Saturn, theSun, the sky

o When we use the before a noun, we mean to say, that noun is only one in the world. There is no other similar thing. It is unique.

o A, an the– all are articles. We use articles to talk about singular nouns.
