Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior

Jesus Christ! I pray that this message finds you

well and in good spirits. October has been a

wonderful month here at the church and it was

highlighted by the wonderful pastoral

appreciation lunch that was held for me on

Sunday, October 13th. Words cannot express

how grateful Erika, Alana, Ava, and I are to be

united with you in ministry. Your love and

graciousness is appreciated and has served as

an encouragement to us along our journey.

We are also excited that this month will mark our

first participation with Family Promise, a ministry

that provides transitional housing to homeless

families. We will be hosting the first group in

Cumberland County, NJ during the week of

November 24th- Dec. 1st. If you would like to

participate or volunteer to help during this week,

please call the church office.

On a final note, it is unbelievable that the year

has moved along this swiftly! Thanksgiving will

be upon us before we know it and Christmas is

not too far away. My prayer as the holiday

seasons approach is that we find some small

way to show kindness to others. Charity is the

true expression of thankfulness and how much

we have to be thankful for! We must be mindful

that giving thanks is not just for food, “…good

bread, good meat, good Lord let’s eat…” but it is

for every aspect of our lives. Colossians 3:17

says it this way, “…whatever you do, whether in

word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord

Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through

him.” In all aspects of our lives we are

encouraged by the Apostle Paul to do it in the

name of Jesus or as unto Christ. When we

conduct our lives in this fashion we are giving

thanks to the Father for His many blessings.

Throughout this month say a little prayer each

day thanking God for His provision and His

blessings.

I trust that this message blesses and

encourages you. Have a wonderful month and I

look forward to seeing you in church soon.

Children’s Christmas Musical Rehearsal

The Choir and Music Committee would like thank everyone who supported our “Night Out at the Green

Olive.” We received a check for $350.00 that we will put towards our gifts for a needy family at Christmas. God bless all who came out and may your holidays be full of the joy of the Lord.

Each month, through the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, we provide non-perishable items that have been brought in (or purchased with monetary donations) to four families - all who

have a child battling cancer.

NEEDED: Soups, Peanut butter, Rice/pasta, Beans (black, kidney etc), Cereal,

Fruits/applesauce, Vegetables, Juice, Cookies/snacks, Side dishes, Tomatoes/sauces,

Canned milk/tuna/chicken.

Items are collected during the offertory. Or can be placed in the basket by the organ. (Please

check all expiration dates.) Financial contributions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your ongoing faithfulness.

Cohansey Baptist church will be helping the Salem County Family Promise team by hosting

families at our church

on the week of Nov. 24th - Nov. 30th.

(Sunday to Sunday, Thanksgiving week)

We will need your help in volunteering your services in the many jobs that are needed for

the week to be successful.

interested in volunteering.

Together we can do this!

For over 20 years, the Jr./Sr. High youth group has sponsored Box City, which is an annual outreach to those who are homeless. The youth will spend the night out in the elements in what they call “Home” – a simple cardboard box, to experience first-hand, “a taste” of what it might be like to be homeless. Please open your hearts in prayer for this outreach and consider giving financially or materially from the following list:

Shampoo

Coffee/tea

Hand soap

Non-perishable food

Clothing: esp. Socks & underwear

Items will be collected in church on Nov. 3rd.

Your donations support the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, which has been providing food, shelter,

and spiritual guidance since 1964.

Let’s fill some shoe boxes and share the love of Jesus Christ with children around the world who may never hear the Truth any other way!

Not able to fill a box???Great! Any donations or money would be greatly appreciated and the youth will use it toward filling a box during Box City! Please leave donations on the stage in the Fellowship Hall or see Julie Fleetwood.

If you are filling a shoe box, please bring it with you to church on Nov. 10th so we can celebrate and pray for the children who will be receiving them!

Recipe of the Month:

Usually called Nantucket Cranberry Pie, this ubiquitous recipe appears everywhere online, with each site revealing some very slight variation: pan size, the amount of almond extract, whether or not to chop the berries or melt the butter... This version includes our own tweaks: the addition of vanilla extract; and a sprinkling of

coarse sugar on top, for delightful crunch.

Nantucket Cranberry Cake

Ingredients

1 tablespoon melted butter 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries, chopped 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 large eggs 3/4 cup (12 tablespoons) butter, melted and cooled

slightly 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup Unbleached All-Purpose Flour 1/2 teaspoon salt* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon almond extract coarse white sparkling sugar , for topping *Reduce the salt to 1/4 teaspoon if you use salted

butter.

Directions

1) Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 10" pie plate or 9" square cake pan. Melt 1 tablespoon butter, and drizzle it into the bottom of the pan.

2) Spread the chopped cranberries and nuts in the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle with the 1/2 cup sugar.

3) In a mixing bowl, beat together the eggs, 3/4 cup melted butter, sugar, flour, salt, vanilla, and almond extract.

4) Spread the thick batter over the cranberries and nuts in the pan, using a spatula or your wet fingers.

5) Sprinkle coarse white sparkling sugar atop the batter.

6) Bake the cake for 40 to 45 minutes, until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean of batter or crumbs.

7) Remove the cake from the oven. Serve warm, or at room temperature; just as it is, or with whipped cream or ice cream.

Yield: one 10" "pie" or 9" square cake.
