Your task is to write a newspaper report for your local newspaper about ONE record-breaking event.
Think about:How to start your newspaper report, how to make the report interesting and how to finish your newspaper report.Success Criteria
Try to include as much of the following as possible:Sentence structure and punctuation:
- Variety of connectives e.g. while, although, until
- Expansion of phrases and clauses adds detail e.g. the people who were waiting on the beach.
- Modal verbs e.g. could, would- Adverbs e.g. Luckily, happily- Adverbials e.g. when it was raining- Expanded noun phrases e.g. the community
centre in the middle of town- Range of punctuation e.g. brackets, dashes,
colons, full punctuation of direct speechText structure and organisation
- Newspaper organised into paragraphs or sections.
- Paragraphs are varied in length- Inclusion of comments or quotations from the
record breaker or record breaker’s family.- Avoid repetition e.g. the 8-year-old/the
youngster.- Connections between paragraphs.
Composition and effect
- Emotive vocabulary e.g. staggering, applause thundered.
- Precise language e.g. beaten the previous record by five
- Viewpoint is controlled e.g. one disgruntled resident said…
- Figurative language- Concise newspaper style phrasing e.g. John’s
dad, father of three, a lifetime player himself from Pinner.
