Only One Gospel

What The Bible Says:

Galatians 1:6-10 (ESV)I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ. You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News 7  but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the truth concerning Christ. 8  Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even an angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you. 9  I say again what we have said before: If anyone preaches any other Good News than the one you welcomed, let that person be cursed. 10  Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

Let’s Back Up A Bit:

1. What did Jesus think about _________ and bondage?

Matthew 15:7-9 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote, 8 ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’”

Any time we settle for appearance over truth, we tread a time-worn path. Our culture has made image a higher priority than character. In modern terms, Jesus' charges sound like this: "Contrary to popular opinion, image isn't everything. You are far too concerned with how you look and how others see you. You are not concerned with how

your heavenly Father sees you."-labc

Matthew 23:1-5 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses. 3 So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach. 4 They crush people with impossible religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden. 5 Everything they do is for show.

2. Jesus came to bring us __________ freedom.

John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

Back To Galatians:

3. Paul has no patience for those who turn from freedom back to ______________.

Galatians 1:6I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ.

4. There is only _______ Gospel.

Galatians 1:6-7 . . . You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News 7 but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the truth concerning Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:1-11 Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. 2 It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place. 3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me.

Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third

day, just as the Scriptures said. 5 He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. 6

After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.

7 Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also

saw him. . . . 11 (NIV) Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

Now What?

Galatians 1:10 Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

Questions:

Do I try to please people more than pleasing God?

Have I been taking grace for granted?

Have I allowed other "requirements" to take their place alongside faith in Christ in my understanding of salvation?

Am I living by "another gospel"?

Response:

What is God speaking to me?

Specifically, how will I obey Him?
