No Creche and Sunday School during July and August FURTHER THOUGHTS ON THE GOSPEL: Ephpheta, which is, Be thou opened; and immediately his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed. And let us here note, that it was because of closed ears it was said: Be opened. And to the person the ears of whose heart are opened to faith, there will without doubt also follow that the string of his tongue shall be loosened; so that he may speak to others, and encourage them so that they also may do the good he himself has done. And here, fittingly, was added: And he spoke right. For he speaks right who first obeying God, does what he tells others they must do. Therefore, in all that our mind dwells on, in all that we do, let us pray that we shall at all times meditate according to His inspiration, and act by His aid, Who lives and reigns with the Father, in the Unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end. The Twelfth Sunday after Trinity

11am, August 14, AD 2016

Etching of the Healing of the deaf and mute man. Alexandre Bida

Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them,

the more zealously they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure,

saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute

speak.”Mark 7:36-37

The Twelfth Sunday after TrinityOpening: 2 Christ whose glory fills the skies

Our worship continues on page 1 of the liturgy booklets.

The Collect:  Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we are to pray, and to give more than we desire or deserve: Pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy; forgiving us those things whereof our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask, but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.  Amen.

Old Testament Lesson: Exodus 34:29-35This is the Word of the Lord: Thanks be to God

Psalm 34:1-10

1  I will alway give thanks ’ unto the ’ Lord : his praise shall ’ ever be ’ in my ’ mouth.2  My soul shall make her ’ boast in the ’ Lord : the humble shall ’ hear there’of and be ’ glad.

3  O praise the ’ Lord with ’ me : and let us ’ magnify his ’ Name to’gether.4  I sought the Lord ’ and he ’ heard me : yea he delivered me ’ out of ’ all my ’ fear.

5  They had an eye unto him ’ and were ’ lightened : and their ’ faces were ’ not a’shamed.6  Lo the poor crieth and the Lord ’ heareth ’ him : yea and saveth him ’ out of ’ all his ’ troubles.7  The angel of the Lord tarrieth ’ round about ’ them that ’ fear him : ’ and de’livereth ’ them.8  O taste and see how ’ gracious the ’ Lord is : blessed is the ’ man that ’ trusteth in ’ him.9  O fear the Lord ye that ’ are his ’ saints : for they that ’ fear him ’ lack ’ nothing.10  The lions do lack and ’ suffer ’ hunger : but they who seek the Lord shall want no ’ manner of ’ thing that is ’ good.Glory be to the Father ’ and to • the ’ Son : and ’ to the ’ Holy ’ Ghost; As it was in the beginning is ’ now and • ever ’ shall be : world without ’ end. A ’ — ’ men.

New Testament Lesson: 2 Corinthians 3:4-9Such is the confidence that we have through Christ towards God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses' face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory.

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation:Alleluia (x4)

We do not live by ’ bread a- ’ lone, but by every word that comes ’ from the • mouth of ’ God.

Alleluia  (x4)

The Gospel: St Mark 7:31-37Before the Gospel we sing: Glory be to thee, O LordThen he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. And taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue. And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha”, that is, “Be opened.” And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”After the Gospel we sing: Praise be to thee, O Christ
