A Glimpse into Student Life

“Love perseveres” The grade 1/2 class did a wonderful job showing us how love always perseveres. They enacted the story of the paralyzed man and how his friends ‘synergized’ to bring him to Jesus so he could be healed. When we persevere, we never give up. We push through obstacles and keep our eyes on the ‘end in mind’. The paralyzed man’s friends could have given up and said there are too many people in the way, but they didn’t. Together, they took him to the roof and lowered him down. Imagine if they had given up... this friend would have missed out on the healing Jesus was willing to give. Sometimes we may want to give up on our friends when we see them doing things that we don’t agree with, but love tells us to keep loving them. Prayer is a powerful weapon that we can use on behalf of our friends when they are making foolish choices and it’s hard to keep loving them. Prayer is a great way to persevere in love.

Grade 8 GraduationIt’s an exciting time of year, Graduation! We have begun the initial preparations for it. One thing that is needed as soon as possible, are 8-10 photos of your child. These are used to put together the processional. I would ask that these pictures have a least one baby picture and then the rest are at various ages. You do not need to send a grad photo, as we have copies of them at school. Please send them directly to Mrs. Roeper in digital [email protected]

A Note from Ms. Kuipers

This week, we will go bless the residents of Westgate Lodge! Please be praying for us on Wednesday as we live out Christ's love to our neighbors!

Track and Field is this Friday! Kindergarten students will run the 200m at 9:20. The other events will happen between 10 and 12, with a break for snack and recess at 10:30. Please make sure your child has running shoes, a water bottle, and sun protection (hat/sunscreen). You are welcome to attend!

SK students are assessed at the end of their year to provide information on their mastery of literacy concepts, so that the school is best able to support them as they move to Grade 1. This week, Mrs. Roeper will continue pulling students in groups to work with her on the Gates-McGuinty Test of skills. Prior notice if your child will be absent or late would be especially helpful this week.

LiteracyWe finished our class WIG of learning a cumulative 60 new sight words! In fact, we well surpassed it! We will celebrate with a movie and popcorn party this Friday after Track and Field! We are editing our fiction stories this week, and also getting ready for our Celebration of Learning! Look for an invite coming home this week!

MathOur next math application will be exploring the clock! We have learned to count by tens - now we will add counting by 5's into our skills to prepare us for reading the minute hand.

BibleThis week, we will learn about Jesus' teaching of the Lord's Prayer. We will learn that we can praise Him, we can ask God questions, we can ask Him for our needs, and we can come to Him with anything. We will also learn the story Jesus told of the banquet, in which all sorts of people are invited to come and join in the kingdom of God.

Memory Verse: Galatians 5:22-23a "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."

A Note from Miss RussellThis week is going to be very busy! Grade 1/2 started off the week leading chapel. Their leadership skills were on display as they took ownership of every aspect of the assembly. This Wednesday, May 30th, our class will be going on our long awaited trip to Westgate Lodge, with Kindergarten. The students have prepared songs to sing, and books and games to share with the residents. Our end in mind is to share the love of God with the residents through song and time spent with them. This Thursday we will have Show and Tell. Students are encouraged to bring an item that is special to them and share it with the class. Finally, Friday is our primary track and field day! The first event will start at 9:00am and will end around 12:00pm. Parents are welcome to come and cheer on their child.

Creation Studies: In creation studies, students have been studying Gods’ creation and his word to understand how God wants us to move through creation. In this unit, students have learned that we are God's image bearers and that God has equipped us to create just like Him. Students have learned three main ways God has shown his children to travel through his creation. We have been created to move, compelled to explore, and commanded to move with care. This week we will finish this unit. Students will study how cars move and create their own models. Then, they will have the opportunity to use their creativity to design their own inventions that move. Finally, students will have a test on material they learned throughout this unit. A review sheet will go home today.

Math: In our 2D geometry unit students will explore sorting, patterning, and symmetry.Grade 2- Learning Goals: I can describe and sort 2D figures based on their attributes. (Ex. 4 sides) I can tell what symmetry is.Grade 1- Learning Goals: I can sort 2D figures into groups that have the same attributes (ex. Curved side)
