New Assessment Arrangements Please make sure you have seen the letter sent home this week regarding the change to assessment this year.

SEND is the new name for what used to be called SEN. The new name is Special Educational Needs and Disabled. Our new SEND policy is available as a paper copy from the school’s office an electronically on the web site at www.Longroyde.weebly.com If you have any questions or queries about the school’s policy please speak to Mrs Richmond Flinn. The new policy doesn’t change our commitment to ensuring the best education for every child possible.

New Menus at school We have new menus starting this week, the menus are on the school’s web site. We are receiving some very positive comments about our school food at the moment so if your child hasn’t tried it yet now might be the time.

PFA Meeting Please make every effort to attend our forthcoming PFA Meeting on Monday next week. The meeting is held in the old library from the end of school so please feel free to come along and bring your child/children with you. The meetings are never long and we are making a real difference to the children’s experience of school through them. Please help us to decide what we will organise and how we will spend our funds. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

A Reminder to all parents of children with medical conditions that a form needs to be completed and returned to school if you need us to adminster medicine in school. Please advise us also if your child has a condition we should know about.

New Choir members needed We are looking to recruit some new choir members for our lovely choir who rehearse each Monday with their conductor, Mr Lambert and their pianist, Mr Baxter. There is no charge for this activity and it starts after school on Mondays from 3.20-4.30pm. We have a concert coming up soon and new music to practice so please let the office know if your child wants to join.

Tooth Decay Did you know that tooth decay was the most common reason for hospital admissions for children aged 5 to 9 between 2012 to 2013?

Musical Opportunities are expanding at LJS As you will know, our school has always provided plenty of opportunities for children to enjoy music making and there has never been a better time for your child to get involved with this. The latest string to the LJS Music Bow is our Woodwind teacher Mrs O’Donaghue who comes into school each week teaching children to play the flute and clarinet. She currently has nine pupils but there is room for more and your child would be very welcome. The cost for these lessons is minimal and could be free (depending on circumstances, terms and conditions apply). Junior school is a wonderful time to learn an instrument before the pressures of GCSEs kick in. Please speak to Mr Fox or anyone in our office if you are interested in any instrument lesson. We also offer the chance to join our Orchestra and Brass Band if your child would like. Both of these are entirely free of charge.
