GRADING

SPC grades on an A, B, C scale; they do not offer pluses (+) or minuses (-). The grading scale is:

A: 100-90%

B: 89-80%

C: 79-70%

D: 69-60%

F: Below 60%

Grading Philosophy:

Grades will be assigned based solely on student performance and not on prevailing student

norms or students' perceptions of their performance. This course syllabus clearly communicates

performance standards and these standards will be fairly and consistently applied throughout the

semester. Grading standards have been developed based exclusively on course objectives

reflecting the appropriate level of content mastery, including mastery of the subject matter as

well as mastery of those core curriculum components such as effective writing and information

literacy deemed appropriate to the course. Although a bell curve may not always be achieved,

nor is it necessarily desirable, it is expected that the grade of A is awarded only to those

students whose work is truly exceptional, reflecting both content mastery and the ability to

analyze and articulate that material. Students can expect that the grade of A will be awarded

only to those few students whose work is exceptional reflecting both content mastery and the

ability to communicate that material. Grades of B and C would be awarded more frequently

implying lesser degrees of content mastery. The grade of D represents the lowest passing grade

and denotes borderline content mastery. The definition of each grade level is as follows:

A = Outstanding: Performance excels far above established standards for university-level

performance

B = Superior: Performance above established standards

C = Good: Performance meets established standards

D = Substandard: Performance is below established standards

F = Failure: Performance does not meet minimum requirements

Assignments Overview

The course assignments will feature discussions, independent research, and team research

projects. Assignments will be submitted in the “Drop Box” section of My Courses ONLY.

Discussions

Each week you will participate in a discussion. The discussions in each module will cover the

main topics of study and create the foundation for the additional assignments throughout the

week. For full posting assignment credit, an initial posting and reply to one peer is required.

The deliverable length of your posting responses must be at least 150 words. Please review

your postings for grammar and punctuation errors. It is important to spell out your words. The

first word of each sentence must be capitalize.

Attendance

Students who are not actively participating in class as defined in an instructor's syllabus are

reported to the Administration during the week following the last date to withdraw with a “W”

on the Academic Calendar. A grade of “WF” will be assigned to students who are not actively

participating during the week following the last day to withdraw with a W grade.

Students can withdraw themselves at any time during the term. However, requests submitted

after the last date to withdraw with a “W” on the Academic Calendar will result in a “WF.”

Students and instructors will automatically receive an email notification through their SPC email

address for withdrawals.

Withdrawing after the “Last Date to Withdraw with a Grade of ‘W’” can have serious

consequences. If the student withdraws from a class after the deadline, on the Academic

Calendar the student will receive a final grade of ‘WF,' which has the same impact on the

student's GPA as a final grade of “F.” A “WF” grade also could impact the student's financial

aid, requiring repayment of financial assistance. Students should consult with an academic

advisor or financial assistance and counselor prior to withdrawing from a class.

Due Dates & Late Policy

Page 7: web.spcollege.eduweb.spcollege.edu/.../MAN4102_Insturctor_page.docx  · Web viewCOURSE SYLLABUS. Course Title: MAN 4102 – Managing Cultural Diversity. Week 8 (SHORT . WEEK) PLAN

Initial discussions are due no later than, 11:55pm Eastern Standard time zone, responses are due

no later than 11:55pm Eastern Standard time zone. Assignments are due no later than 11:59pm

Eastern Standard time zone. Late assignments and discussions will not be graded.

Contingency Plan

As learners, it is important to have a contingency plan for emergencies. For example, a backup

plan is needed for computer and Internet issues. SPC campus and the public library provides

current access for computer usage. Wireless Internet is another option.

All assignments must be submitted by the due date. Late assignments and discussions will not

be graded.

As a course requirement, all assignments MUST be submitted through My Courses modules,

“Drop Box.” All assignments MUST be setup as an academic assignment, using APA 6th

edition. Please use the APA Templates/Helpers in the course as a writing tool & guide.

This course requires “Team Based” assignments to be submitted. Because of the use of “Team Based” in this course, a formal standard has been devised. Students are required to submit assignments and share team documents in Microsoft Office formats (Word, Excel, or other Microsoft formats, if specified).

This course uses the Team Based website “Wiggio” – which is hosted by “Desire2Learning” for teams to use for communication, collaboration and interaction. Your teams have been created for you. Log into the “Wiggio” team based website and set up your profiles and start communicating with your team members. The professor of this course has access to the groups and is able to review interactions among the teams.

Team Members’ Expectations:

Team Project Assignments are a integral portion of this course. In order to maintain the integrity of the grading process as it relates to the team project, there are several procedures to which each team member must adhere:

Team members must collaborate for a mutual time/method to brainstorm ideas, assign tasks, and create deadlines

Team members must commit to the integrity of the timelines and products for which each is responsible

Team members are responsible for preparing Peer reviews that are constructively critical, confidential, and mandatory

If a team member is not participating, contact the instructor via email, with supporting information and dates of the non-participating member (Including calendar events, meetings and other collaborations missed by the non-participating member)

Decisions to withhold the paper have to be declared on the confidential peer-reviewed form, including reasons for this action

Team Management Guidelines:

All members of a team should actively participate in order to effectively contribute to the team; the individual members of each team will be graded as such. Lack of quality in the delivery of the final project, as well as, lack of participation and collaboration from any individual team member will bare consequences. The following guidelines create the boundaries in which each team will operate:

Peer reviews will have a significant influence on scores awarded to individual team members; however, at the instructor’s discretion, the highest and lowest Peer reviews may be disregarded

Only the instructor may authorize requests for team membership changes Creating additional teams is not an option
