OUR MISSION is to be a Spirit-filled community of love, challenging people to pro-
claim the good news of Christ’s salvation to the world. We seek to foster
and promote a life pleasing to God through prayer and Sacramental ministry. We
are called to nurture spiritual growth, build our lives on Gospel values and to reach out to the poor
and hurting.
Parish Outreach Update
The May 13 Parish Outreach Basket-in-Hand Collection is dedicated to Get On The Bus in honor of Mother’s Day. Get on the Bus is a program of The Center for Restorative Justice Works, a non-profit organization that unites
children and families separated by the consequences of crime.
An annual event, Get on the Bus offers free transportation for the children and their
caregivers to the prison. Each child is provided a travel bag, a photo with their parent, and meals for
the day. On the trip home, a teddy bear with a letter from their parent and post-event counseling.
Regular parental visits are essential to the welfare of children, incarcerated men and women, and the society as a whole. Children who have r
egular parent visits demonstrate better emotional and social adjustment, as well as a lower degree
of juvenile delinquency. Their parents demonstrate lower rates of recidivism and higher rates of family
reunification upon release. The Holy Spirit Parish Outreach Committee would
like to express our thanks for your continued prayers and support for those in need, including the children left behind that become the silent
victims of crime.

YOUTH MINISTRY CALENDAR 5.06 12-330 pm Life Teen Mass Life Teen/Edge (Final 2017-180 5.19 5-7 pm SSD Fundraiser Dinner Many people at the time of Jesus related to God as a slave, or as a servant might relate to his or her master. They wanted to make God happy in order to avoid punishment. There was little to no love in their relationship with God. Is there anyone is your life you view as a master, or an authority figure, lacking love? A bad teacher or coach, a difficult boss, a mom, dad, aunt, or uncle that acts out of their own woundedness? Jesus, in His ministry and saving death, came to show us that God is not a slave driver, but rather a loving Father, and we are His children. While a slave can be beaten into submission, a son or daughter can be raised. How do you view God? Is God raising you? Are you a growing member of the family of God? Or is God your slave master making you do things that you do not want to do? How could you be better at relating to God as Father? A father is someone we go to for advice. A father is someone who provides for us. Try asking God for advice. Try thanking God for what He has provided for you. Try approaching God, in faith, asking for what you need. If the authority figures in your life have disappointed you, let God heal that wound and step in as a good Father.
Would a slave master die saving his slaves? A good father would and this is exactly what God does for us; He dies so we might live.
CAN YOU HELP? We are still in need of silent auction items and dessert auction items for our fundraiser dinner on May 19. We truly appreciate all the cash donations we’ve received, but need these other items as well. How about a garden basket or such for the silent auction? Or, a cake, etc. for the dessert auction (that doesn’t need refrigeration)? If you can’t do anything else, please pray for the success of our fundraiser. All funds go toward sending 112 people to Steubenville San Diego this year on July 27-29. Thank you for your consideration! Registration is now open for high school Confirmation for the 2018-2019 school year. Forms are available on our website. Classes will start on August 26.

FULFILLED UNCOVERING THE BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS OF
CATHOLICISM- PART 1
“Fulfilled” explores the biblical roots of the Catholic Faith. It uncovers God’s consistent
design for our worship of Him and His relationship with Us. Learn how the Old Testament Tabernacle can be used as a blueprint for the Catholic Faith and how Jesus fulfilled it in the New Testament.
Part 1 focuses on the elements found in the outer sanctuary of the Tabernacle and how they
connect to the liturgical calendar, the priesthood, purgatory, baptism & more.

The Holy Spirit Council 16185 of the
Knights of Columbus would like to thank all the parishioners that helped make our
3rd Annual Seminarian Dinner Fundraiser a huge success. Thanks to your generosity, each of the twenty seminarians in our Diocese will be
getting a $1,000 check before the new academic year in September.
On behalf of the Holy Spirit Men’s Club, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended and participated in this year’s Italian Dinner. This is the largest social event for our parish. It now takes many, many hours
of food preparation, setting up the Hall and other behind-the-scenes work to carry out what turned out to
be a great event for our parishioners and friends. Much appreciation and thanks go out to Life Teen, ICF, the Women’s Guild, Knights of Columbus, Men’s Club,
and others who donated their valuable time, effort, skills of many kinds and superb auction items.
The intention of the dinner is to make it an evening for fellowship and to just have a good old time.
We thank you for your support and attendance. The Holy Spirit Men’s Club hopes to see you again at
next year’s dinner, which will be on Sunday, March 3rd. Please save the date! Volunteers will be needed again for next year’s event, so please consider helping out
in ANY way you can! Thank you very much!
Sincerely, Mike Pappace: Event Chairperson
