Your Marriage & Celebration
Choosing The Royal Exchange
A marriage is a special occasion for the bride and the groom and all that are involved. The Royal Exchange has a lot to offer for your special day. The Royal Exchange is an approved venue location on the historical Threadneedle Road in the City of London and we have an expert staff devoted to making your wedding celebration pure perfection.
Preparing for Your Wedding
You can get married at any approved venue or register office in England, regardless of where you live. However, there are certain legal requirements you must do before planning your big day.
If you are both EU citizens then both of you must give formal notice of your intention to the superintendent registrar of the district in which you reside (or have resided for the preceding seven days).
If one or both of you are non-EU citizens then you must apply for special permission for your marriage to take place. Once you have obtained that permission then you must both give formal notice of your intention to a superintendent registrar at a designated register office. Further details of the required documentation are available from any designated registrar office.
Your notices will be displayed at the register office where you have given your notice for period of fifteen clear days and only then can the authorities, allowing your marriage to go ahead, be issued. Your notices will state where you wish to marry and are valid for twelve months. If you change your venue or your notices expire you will both need to give a new notice. Both of you are required, under law, to give notice in person to the registrar office; a relative or friend cannot do this on your behalf nor can you give notice by telephone, fax or email.
Setting the Date
In order to begin planning your big day in plenty of time we offer a provisional booking system which allows you to book your event up to a year in advance. A provisional booking may be made directly with us at The Royal Exchange. However, you will then need to contact the City of London register office to ensure they have the availability of a registrar on that date. Full details will be provided when you make the booking with the registry office.
