Hager was a Past Master of theNorth Judson Masonic Lodge #438,was currently the Worthy Patron ofthe Eastern Star Chapter 280,LaPorte, Indiana, a member of theSouth Bend Valley of the ScottishRite, the York Right of LaPorte, OrakShrine of Michigan City, Indiana andthe Widow’s Sons Motorcycle Club.He was a Journeyman Lineman withIBEW Local #1393. He enjoyedspending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy,three daughters: Lisa (Thomas)Glennon of Koontz Lake, Indiana,Tracy (Anthony) Cochran ofRemington, Indiana and Emiley(Shane) Crecelius of Knox, Indiana,eleven grandchildren, his mother,Fayetta Gibson, three brothers:Daniel (Sheila) Minix, Wayne (Patty)Minix and Ronny Minix, all of NorthJudson, one sister, CharlotteSamuels of Rochester, Indiana, twostep brothers: Alex (Marsha) Flagg ofOra, Indiana and Alford (Sharon)Flagg of Knox and three step sisters:Jennifer (Tom) McKinley of Sheridan,Oregon, Jeanette (Juan) Rodriquezof Denton, Texas and JoAnn Busamof Reno, Nevada. Leonard was a jokester and a hardworking man who enjoyed rebuildingcars and trucks and collecting pick-ups. He loved spending time withfamily. He had worked 31 years atthe Budd Plant and 26 years at theGrovertown Truck Stop.

He is survived by his wife, LindaSue, three sons: Bobby (Brenda)Huggins of Portage, Indiana, MichaelHuggins of Joplin, Missouri and JohnSchacht Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana,four daughters: Rachel Thompson ofPlymouth, Indiana, DeborahHagestad of Colorado Springs,Colorado, Charlotte (Keith) Lindley ofClaypool, Indiana and Connie Snyderof Knox, eighteen grandchildren,twenty three great grandchildren andone sister, Lucy Wicks of Corinth,Mississippi. He was preceded indeath by one son, Darrell Huggins,one daughter, Theresa Huggins, twogranddaughters: Lisa Huggins andStephanie Gineris, one grandson,Johnny Gineris, three brothers:Robert Earl, Idell and Coral Hugginsand five sisters: Dorothy Crum, RubyHastings, Allee Huggins, RosieWoodard and Ethel Henry.

Services were held Friday, August18, at Braman & Son MemorialChapel. Burial was in the Crown HillCemetery, Knox. Memorial contribu-tions may be given to a charity of thedonor’s choice.

TRAINING PROGRAMLeadership Starke County is seeking nominations for the 6th commu-nity leadership training class which begins on September 22. Theclass meets once each month from 9 am to 3 pm from Septemberthrough May at locations around Starke County. “Our goal this yearis to have 12 adults and 3 high school students in the class,” accord-ing to Jim Jessup, class facilitator. This unique curriculum providesyoung, emerging, and established leaders a new perspective onStarke County, including its history, culture, challenges, and opportu-nities for the future. Topics include leadership skills, networking, thesocial services, local government, economic development, educa-tion, law enforcement, and personal development. There is even abus trip around Starke County included.The training is perfect for new citizens, those wanting to learn moreabout the county, and anyone who is seeking to become moreengaged and to make an impact on the future of Starke County.Interaction with current community leaders and other class membersis a key component of the experience.The cost of the program is $300 which includes meals, instruction,materials, and transportation.
