I am a big fan of the preacher Charles Spurgeon. Though I may not agree on all his points theologically, I deeply respect the way he lived his life. Born 1834 in England, he didn't find Jesus until he was 15. But when he

found him he let Jesus transform every inch of his being. It is said that he crafted 3,500 sermons to over 10 million people. He spoke frequently on the proper manner of a Christian and once spoke the following, “If you are to go to Christ, do not put on your good doings and feelings, or you will get nothing; go in your sins, they are your livery. Your ruin is your argument for mercy; your poverty is your plea for heavenly alms; and your need is the motive for heavenly goodness. Go as you are, and let your miseries plead for you.” I believe that when we approach Jesus in our most authentic states, He is present and ready to roll up His sleeves. In the New Testament we see the results of those that encounter Jesus with pride versus those that "came as they are." The rich are shown how poor they are and the wise are shown their ignorance. But over and over and over again we find our Savior touching the diseased when they felt hopeless, forgiving the adulterers, and dining with the sinners. In reality each of us are still tempted with sins and deeply in need of a God who wasn't just present in our conversion but still lights a path for us. May the next time you approach Jesus, be it at church, work, or home, give Him something to work with! Let Him know your struggles and needs because He is present and waiting to roll up His sleeves. To close, I would like to leave another quote by Spurgeon. "Pride is the devil's dragnet in which he takes more fish than any other, except procrastination." Don't wait to live an authentic life.
