For 76 years the residents of Jasper and the surrounding towns have celebrated life in western Steuben County on the anniversary of our nations birth-day – July 4th. What started out as a simple picnic with homespun music has taken on many faces over the years but the one true theme that has stood the test of time is the focus on family, friends, community service and community pride - and this year is no different! Swarthout Recycling is a family owned, family operated business located in Beaver Dams, New York.

Our location is strategically located for many Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben County residents. With over

20 years in the business we understand the importance of continual, proactive recycling. Humans produce

many pounds of waste every day through thoughtless consumerism, while not limiting their consumption

or making any attempt to re-use their possessions. However, a little effort put toward recycling can prevent

functional products from fi lling up landfi lls; they can begin to save the planet, one recycling act at a time.

The United Church of Jasper The United Church of Jasper is a community church serving Christ in today’s world with United Methodist and Presbyterian Church roots, where all are WELCOME with open hearts, minds and arms. Serious deliberations to federate the Methodist and Presbyterian churches of Jasper were earnestly started in 1960. In June of 1962, the two congrega-tions held their first service together in the Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Snyder as the first minister of the combined churches. A decision by the newly formed council decided to name the federation “The United Church of Jasper”. Some years later the Methodist Church Building was torn down. The beautiful stained glass windows from the Methodist Church now adorn the sanctuary of the West Jasper Wesleyan Church. The land where the church was situated is now the site of the Jasper Fire Company. Presently, Rev. David Barnard is in his 12th year of ministry at the United Church of Jasper. Sunday School classes for youth and adults are available at 10:00 AM and Sunday Morning Worship at 11:00 AM. Sum-mer Bible School for children and adults will be held in mid July for four evenings. Watch for further plans and times as the summer advances. Our doors are open to YOU!

AMBULANCE CORPS The Jasper Fire Department came into being in 1927, under the leadership of Ed Bouck, Ar-thur Whiting and Forrest Loper, after a child was lost in a house fi re. Jasper Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department serves the Town of Jasper with a popula-tion of 1327 covering 52.7 square miles. We also provide mutual aid to surrounding communities of Troupsburg, Canisteo, Green-wood, Woodhull and Cameron with a combined population of 6809 citizens. Our current fi re-fi ghters and EMT’s spend many volunteer hours updating their training to provide the commu-nity with the best fi re and emer-gency services possible. Since 9/11/2001 all fi re depart-ments are to be equipped to han-dle any major emergency. Dis-cussion is underway to expand or relocate our fi rehouse to keep within these guidelines. Our cur-rent building was built circa 1962 before these guidelines were in ef-fect. Coupled with the changes in size of newer apparatus we have outgrown our current building.Committees are at work to bring about changes.

Line Offi cers for 2012-2013 are as follows:

• Chief - Ron Friends• First Assistant - Bill Heuring• Second Assistant - Paul Hunt• Third Assistant - Scott Hyman• Ambulance Captain - Bob Mattison• Co-Captain - Corey Brewer

We are proud to serve our hometown community. If you have any questions or concerns or would like to join please feel free to contact any member. Thank you for all your sup-port for the Jasper Fire and Ambulance Corps.

The Jasper Memorial ParkThe Jasper Memorial Park was the Eagle Scout project of Bryan Lewis in 2001! The Memorial Wall

was built as a way for families to memorialize their loved ones as part of the history of Jasper.

Spaces are still available on this wall, but, Boy Scout Troop 46 NEEDS YOUR HELP!

The center section of

the wall was built with a

waterproof box intended

to house the JASPER’S

VETERANS

MEMORIAL.

Unfortunately that

project has never been

completed by the town and

the Troop would like to

fi nd Volunteers to help us

COMPLETE this

memorial!

Every Scout knows these

words “On my Honor

I will do my best

to do my duty to GOD

and MY COUNTRY”

Please help us complete
