AttentionDeer Hunters
My fellow sportsman:Our deer herd is being managed
into near extinction by the powers thatbe. Don’t be a useful tool to those that want ourprecious deer to be gone forever. Speak outagainst the game hogs that threaten our way oflife. Just say no to the killing of any more of ourdoes.

The 18th century philosopher Immanuel Kant commented somewhatcynically on the inherent flaws in human nature: “Out of timber socrooked as that from which man is made nothing entirely straight can
be built.”Perhaps this is why no human institution, whether social or political, can be without its flaws, and why corruption is so ingrained and hard toeliminate in human institutions. As individuals we are all inherently flawed, and this realization should make us more tolerant of the flaws of others.Weare usually disposed to be tolerant of our own flaws and limitations becausewe understand where they come from—our disordered souls, our less thanperfect upbringings, and our baser instincts—but we don’t always extend thissame tolerance to others, preferring to judge them harshly. We are allinherently imperfect beings and keeping this in mind should help us to treatothers with kindness and understanding. – Christopher Simon

DID YOU KNOW?
Not all pets are good at findingtheir way back home. A 2012 tele-phone survey by the ASPCA dis-covered that in the last five yearsbefore the survey was conducted, the percentage of lost dogs or catshovered around 15 percent.Veterinarians have confirmed thatmany animals, even a small pet,can trot indefinitely at 3 miles perhour. At this moderate pace, it'spossible for a pet to get 24 milesaway from home in a typical workday. Dogs tend to roam, sometimesin circles or straight lines, whilecats tend to go through a series ofrun-and-hide bursts until they find asafe spot to settle down. TheASPCA survey also found that agreater percentage of lost dogs arerecovered (93 percent) than lostcats (74 percent). This is likely dueto the fact that dogs are more likelyto wear identification tags and havetracking microchips installed ontheir bodies than cats. It's importantfor pet owners to begin searchingfor missing pets immediately. If apet is not found, ask aroundonsocial media or visit a local shelteras soon as possible to increaseyour chances of recovering yourpet. Proper identification andmicrochipping can help reunite lostpets with their owners.

HOW TO HELP &SUPPORT SCHOOLSGood schools help to harbor a strong
sense of community. Children often maketheir first friends at school, and parentsoften meet their neighbors throughschool-sponsored activities.Students and school districts face a new
set of challenges each year. Many of themcan be remedied or made less dauntingwith the help of volunteers. Here are someof the many ways men and women cansupport the schools in their communities.· Practice open communication. Parents ofchildren in the school should becomefamiliar with teachers and the staff in theschool. Find a balance between beinginvolved and being intrusive. Show aninterest in your children's assignmentsand ask to meet with teachers if the needarises. Doing so illustrates to the teacherthat there is a connection at home andthey're not alone in the journey.· Participate in school fundraisers.Schools may not have enough money tocover all of their needs, and fundraisersare vital to the success of many schools.Fundraisers may provide money for theentire school or be collected for particularefforts, such as new technology or athlet-ic uniforms. While you don't have to getbehind every fundraiser, participating injust a few can help the school raise need-ed funds.· Send in complete supplies. Teachersoften ask parents to supplement suppliesfor their classrooms. Remember to send inwhat is requested when school supplylists are given to students. This helpsclassrooms run more efficiently and mayreduce out-of-pocket expenditures forteachers.Schools are an integral part of many com-munities. Explore the many ways to sup-port schools with donations, volunteerismand more.
