Week 10 Term 2 2016

This term has been an incredibly busy and productive one. The

students have had a wonderful range of extracurricular experiences

that support their classroom programs and The Department of

Education priorities and guidelines.

The high lights have included The Sport in Schools Program which

developed Athletic skills. Unfortunately our carnival was postponed,

but our K-2 students still were able to have their tabloid part of the

carnival. The new date for the 3-6 carnival, including 8yo’s from Year

2 is Tuesday 19th July (first day back Term 3)

Brewongle Field Studies excursion enabled our students to learn

about Aboriginal History and enjoyed a wonderful hands-on

experience at Sackville. Year 4 still have their excursion to come due

to the road being flooded on their dedicated week.

Friday will mark the final of our Semester One Events with our whole

day NAIDOC Celebrations. All children will have a fun and

educational experience looking at Aboriginal Culture. The day

includes dancing, painting, cleansing ceremonies, Art and many

more. Rotational activities will be happening all day. This is a

wonderful way to finish off our term.

Don’t forget to wear your sports mufti tomorrow to raise funds to

help support Levi and his family. They are going through a

tremendously difficult time at the moment and I’m sure you would

all love to help. It is a gold coin donation to wear your sports gear,

and any families wishing to donate a little more can do so through

the front office. Continued over page

This will coincide with our Education Week/ Open Day celebrations.

Books will be on sale from 8.30am-9.00am and 3.00pm-3.15pm

If anyone would like to volunteer to be a cashier either before or

Any assistance will be

greatly appreciated.

Enrichment Program at Hobartville

On Tuesday the 21st of June Mrs Fisher and Mrs Wilson hosted a Monster Art gifted and talented enrichment

program at Hobartville for selected students from all schools in the Hawkesbury area. It was a fantastic day for all

involved. We used a variety of mediums to design, create and produce many different types of artwork. We would

like to thank Hobartville students for being so welcoming to the students from visiting schools.

This term S1L have been learning about different text types such as recounts and explanations. Here is some of our work.

We hope you enjoy it.

Brewongle

On Wednesday Year Two and a few teachers went to Brewongle in Sackville. I was tired when we got there. At Brewongle we

went for a bush walk. I learnt about Aboriginal culture. Then we had recess. After that we learnt about how the Aboriginal

people survived. The men went hunting for animals while the girls got berries and other things like bugs. Then we made paint

and painted stories on ourselves. After we had lunch we went back to school.

William M.

Brewongle

On Wednesday S1L and S1G went on a bus to Brewongle. We sat on a green mat. Then we went with Sue into the bush. We

learned about aboriginal stuff. We learnt about animals and Aboriginal weapons. We also learnt about possums. We found

some possum footprints. At the end we did face painting. Then Mark told us a story about Sue’s true love. It was a blue

tongued lizard. We got to stroke him on the back. Then we went back on the bus and went back to school.

Why we had a Flood

Last weekend we had a flood in Richmond. The Hawkesbury River overflowed and the bridge was closed. For two days it

rained and the bridge was closed because it was flooded. The rain went onto the land and then it flowed into the river. The dry

land became flooded and wet. One of the bridges didn’t close because it was higher. At the end of the day my dad’s shed was

flooded and our pavements were too.

Finley A.

Why we had a Flood

Last weekend we had a flood in Richmond. The Hawkesbury River overflowed and the bridge was closed. It rained and rained

for a very long time. Then water flowed into the river from the banks. Because there was so much rain the river level rose,

causing the river to overflow. The water moved quickly onto dry land. There was water on Yarramundi Bridge causing the road

to be closed, but North Richmond Bridge didn’t close because it is much higher. I got to watch a movie because so many teach-

ers went home.
