Week 2 – March 30 th into Easter. Hopefully you will have finished your Georgia O’Keeffe research board and completed the two studies that would enhance your presentation and raise your attainment Level. I am going to set another research task and presentation board! However, this time I want you to put all of the artists onto one board and rather than just put on facts just about the individual artists I want you to explain by using Content, Process, Form and Mood why I have selected them for you. What are the common links? Use your own language and as you have done before make your presentation visually exciting yet structured with a title, neat headings and perhaps some of your own studies. If you can, use a piece of card. However, you could make up a sheet with separate joined pieces of paper or even an old piece of wallpaper. Be inventive? This will be the last research task – At the end of Easter I will be setting some practical project work which is completely different and will be the prep work for your producing some woodcut print samples as soon as you return to school.

I am going to set another research task and presentation board! However, this time I want you to put all of the artists onto one board and rather than just put on facts just about the individual artists I want you to explain by using Content, Process, Form and Mood why I have selected them for you.

We need to research artists because they can inform our own work, give us initial inspiration and help us understand how to use new techniques. Producing evidence of critical understanding is 25% of the whole GCSE grade. That is why these tasks are as important as drawing!

Task 1 – Enhance/Finish your Georgia O’Keeffe presentation – Critical studies will be 25% of your total GCSE grade. It’s an area where getting high marks is really accessible!

Task 2 – This Week! I want you to research the following artists on the next slides and

produce a combined research board! As well as some information on each artist explain

what links these artists and designers?

These images are by Andy Goldsworthy.

• Karl Blossfeldt was a German photographer of plant forms. Blossfeldt used a handmade wooden camera to photograph the botanical specimens and also casted models that were to be used by industrial craftsmen and manufacturers. I love the simplicity and symmetry of his work ~ also the richness and velvety softness of the black and white photogravure. Although this work was done in the early 1900's, it has an amazingly modern look.

Karl BlossfeldtThis artist captured the beauty of symmetry and the balance and grace of natural forms in his photography. I want you to produce some research as you did with Georgia O’Keeffe. Focus more on what you think and use your own descriptive language. Think simple, do you like the images? Why or why not? What would you do if you wanted to do something similar but make it better?

DON’T FORGET CONTENT – PROCESS – FORM – MOOD!!!!!

Extension Task to push for higher grades! As well as Blossfeldt and Haeckell there are other artists and photographers that have made similar work focusing on the qualities and beauty of natural forms. The next two artists look at surface, texture and shadows? Extend your research by collecting some images by Imogen Cunningham and Edward Weston as well.
