WHY DO WE CONFESS TO A

    PRIEST? WHY NOTCONFESS DIRECTLY TO

    GOD?

  • 8/3/2019 Week 2 Lesson 3

    13/20

    This confess-to-God directly

attitude springs from a poorunderstanding of sin and thesacrament of Reconciliation.

  • 8/3/2019 Week 2 Lesson 3

    14/20

This attitude, first of all, does not

recognize that sin offends notjust God but other people as

well. Like a small would thataffects the whole body, sinaffects the whole Body of Christ,

    the Church.

  • 8/3/2019 Week 2 Lesson 3

    15/20

    Secondly, this attitude does not

recognize the role of the priest asthe representative of both Christand the Church. Since our sins

offend both God and ourneighbors, we have to ask for the

    forgiveness of both, too.
