WEEK 3 | TERM 1 | THURSDAY 16/2/17 Our 2017 Ambassadors and Student Action Team Leaders It gives us great pleasure to introduce our newest group of student leaders for 2017. We were so proud of our students who submitted their applications and were subjected to an informal interview. We hope they enjoy their year as leaders in our school. Information Packs All parents will be receiving a pack of consents that need to be signed and returned to our front office as soon as possible. This provides parents with valuable information and also provides the school with vital information. Please make it a priority to read and send back all the appropriate forms. Appropriate behaviour of parents in and around the school It has been reported to us, that recently a parent driving a red commodore vehicle was abusive to another parent regarding parking issues at the front of the school. Apart from the ugly scene being played out in front of our school, our major concern is how is this behaviour appropriate in front of our children? Is this type of angry behaviour teaching our children how to behave when they are dealing with a difficult situation? We ask that all parents recognise before and after school is a busy time in and around the school and to please show patience and understanding in this matter. Swimming Half of the R-5 students completed their swimming lessons during Week 3. We were lucky with the weather and the remaining R-5s will be swimming in Week External School Review Thank you to those parents and students who were able to take part in the external review process. In a few weeks’ time we will have a final report sent to us and after Governing Council have reviewed this, it will be placed on the school website. Family Court Orders Families are reminded that any court orders concerning the school in any way must be supplied to the school by the parents. It is not the school’s responsibility to seek these out and we can only enforce the points contained with the court orders. It is vital that the school not be used as a point of mediation between parties. Acquaintance Evening Parents and carers are invited to attend school on Tuesday 21 February from 6.15 -7pm to meet and greet your child’s teachers. Most of the specialist teachers will also be available to meet on the night. AGM Please note the Annual General Meeting for the election of the Governing Council will take place on Tuesday 28 February at 7pm in the Resource Centre. Nominations maybe made via the attached nomination form and returned to the school by Friday 24 February.

Vale Park Primary School participates in this challenge annually.

In 2016 we had 100 % of students submit a completed Student Reading Record.

How does my child complete the Challenge?

All classes will receive a Student Reading Record in the next week or so.

Keep this Student Reading Record in a safe place

Fill out the top section immediately

Read 12 books:

- 8 books must be from the PRC list (books in the VPPS Library have special stickers on the spines)

- 4 of your own choosing (which may or may not be on the PRC booklists)

You can include the following types of books:

- E-Books

- Audio Books

- class/shared reading - this includes books you read at home with your family, or even books that are

read to you by an adult

- Prescribed books that you have to read for school (any subject)

- non-fiction

- research for assignments

- books in another language other than English

Fill out your Student Reading Record as you go, and get an adult (parent/carer, librarian, school

teacher, etc) to sign each one to verify that you have read the book

If at least one book from a series is included on the Premiers Reading Challenge booklist, then any

book from that series can also be included

Hand the form in to your class teacher as soon as you have finished all 12 books

The sheets are stored in the classroom and collected each week

The final date to hand in your form is Friday 8th September

Wait for your award! They are delivered to school in late November, with an assembly to present

them in early December

Key Dates 2017

From 30 January 2017 - Premier's Reading Challenge starts

8 September 2017 - Reading concludes for the 2017 Challenge

Vale Park Primary School Premiers Reading Challenge:

We have a tree in the Library. As each student hands in a Student Reading

Record, they get a leaf on the tree with their name. We encourage students to

keep reading daily (a great life skill) and complete more reading records.

Any queries please go to http://www.premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au/prc/ The students visit the Library every week.

We are also open for borrowing from 8.30 to 8.45 and 3.05 – 3.20 most days

(look for the flowers outside the door – that indicates that we are open and have a staff member present). Please contact the Library

if you have any queries.

Room 14

We have been full of enthusiasm

and excitement to start their

swimming and water safety lessons.

They have been learning skills to

survive in aquatic situations like

floating, survival strokes, body

control and wearing life jackets. We

have even been using kickboards,

noodles and weighted ropes.

We have also been exploring our identity and

what makes unique by creating mixed media

collages with love hearts about things we

love. Some student used their divergent

thinking skills to make their Artwork

vibrant and really highlight how we are all

different.

Values. As a class we have been discussing and demonstrating

these values by taking part in team building activities.
