Summer Program 2018 Our summer program is an enrichment program that reviews what was taught during the school year and in addition has the following themes. It begins June 4th and ends August 10th. June Week 1 Desert Oasis 1. Water bottles with layers of colored sand. 2. Let's make pet rocks. 3. Create a hunt where the treasure is a water bottle, or a well. 4. Learn about plants that grow in the desert. We will make some cactus crafts. 5. Animals that live in the desert. Week 2 Wind and Sea 1. Learn about the different types of fishing; pole, net, spear, deep sea, etc. 2. Waves, tsunamis and hurricanes. 3. Rafts, sailboats and cruise ships. 4. Water sports. Week 3 Fun and Fitness 1. FitDecks are perfect. These are decks of cards that have a different exercise on each one. They even have decks specifically for kids. 2. Obstacle courses are fun. 3. What is physical training? Stretching, calisthenics and cardio (a short run. 4. Sports: Soccer, Basketball, Bowling and Nerf Darts. Week 4 Disco Days

Summer Program 2018

Week 4Disco Days1. Dance with 70s disco music.2. Pet Rocks make the perfect craft project.3. Have groups practice and perform a disco hit. They can lip sync or not. The Village People and

the Brady Bunch are two groups that would be fun to imitate.4. Make a craft with a happy face.

JulyWeek 1Stars and Stripes1. North vs. South Capture the Flag. Union vs. Confederates2. Hold an election for class president.3. With the help of the teachers create a Camp Declaration of Independence.

Week 2

Noah's Ark Got Talent1. Sing or lip sync their favorite songs. 2. Do a special dance. 3. Draw a special picture4. Put on a magic show

Superheroes 1. Have the children design and create their superhero costume. 2. Have the children create their name, power(s), and the story of their origin. 3. Put together a fitness test. We can make and paint weights that are made of foam.

4. Have a discussion with the children: “What is an everyday superhero?”, “Who are real heroes?”, “Do superheroes need friends?”

Week 3 Mad Science1. Have a science workshop. We will get great ideas for experiments at the following websites:

2. Build and launch rockets. There are all sorts of ways to do this, from low-tech DIY rockets using 2-liter bottles to kits that are more complicated and more exciting. A quick Google search will provide us with plenty of tutorials and ideas.

3. The same goes with robot building. You can build robots out of recyclable material that are more of a craft project.

Week 4Time Travelers1. One of the older children will dress up as a caveman and introduce a dinosaur hunt. The rest of the

children go out and try to find as many dinosaurs as possible. The dinosaurs can be small plastic dino toys, stuffed animals, or paper cut-outs posted up around the area.

2. We will have a different theme within the weekly theme of Time Travelers; Pirates, Wild West, Renaissance, Roaring 20s, etc.

3. We will have a special event where different classes are set-up as different times in history. As the groups travel through time they have to accomplish a task from each era. For example, in the Renaissance area they have to identify 5 inventions of Leonardo da Vinci.

4. Build a time machine as a craft project. Bring out various craft supplies and let the children use their imagination.

AugustWeek 1Emergency Services-First Responders1. The firemen2. The police3. Search and Rescue sets up demonstrations using their search dogs 4. The Marines 5. EMS-Emergency Medical Service

Week 2Texas AdventuresTexas has a lot to offer. There’s great music venues, the Alamo, ranches, oil, cattle, aerospace industry, great collegiate and professional sports teams. Texas comes from the word Tejas which means friends so you can definitely play on that.1. Mexico and Texas-the Alamo2. Animals found in Texas3. Texas geography4. Sports in Texas5. There is a strong Mexican influence in Texas so have a few examples i.e. language, food, music and

traditions.

The last day of our Summer Program is August 10th.The first day of the Fall Semester is August 15.
