Week 3 Year 5 Topic
Monday
We will be learning about French music for part of
this week.
Start by learning how to say the names of some
musical instruments in French.
Use this video to learn how to say and write the
names of the instruments:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xdqg08QtIoM
Watch this video of a fictional band from the 1960s called ‘The
Archies’:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9nE2spOw_o
The Archies first appeared in a comic book,
after which an animated TV series was made
entitled ‘The Archie Show’.
They had several chart hits in the USA, but
‘Sugar Sugar’ is the song they are recognised
for in the UK.
There have been several animated bands over the years, but perhaps
the most recent, recognised group is ‘Gorillaz’.
Ask adults in your family, or your teachers, if they can remember
any animated bands from their childhood!
Create and draw your own band in which each person plays an
instrument. It could be a rock/pop band or a classical band.
Label, in French, the different instruments in the band or write
sentences for each band member, using the examples below and
the sentences in the first video to help you.
EXAMPLE:
Il joue de la guitare. Elle joue du piano.
Elle joue du tambourin.
une batterie
une guitare

Wednesday
For the rest of the week, you are going to learn about special
journeys.
Think about a place with a special
memory - somewhere that you enjoy
or have enjoyed visiting. You might
have more than one!
My special place is Lincoln:
Lincoln
Lincoln is a very special city to me. Twenty-six years ago, I
moved out of my parents' house in Grimsby to go to Bishop
Grosseteste College to train to become a teacher. It was the
first time that I had lived away from home; the first time I had
done my own food shopping; the first time away from all of my
'home' friends and family. I
lived in Lincoln for four years
where I met many fantastic
friends, many of whom I have
stayed in contact with. I love
to visit Lincoln regularly
because it reminds me of my
student days.
Your special place may not be a town or a city; it could be a
park, a playground or even somebody’s house….
Write a paragraph to describe the place which is special to you
and include illustrations.
- Say where it is
- Describe it
- Explain why the place is so special to you

A pilgrimage is a journey that has religious or spiritual significance.
The journey is usually taken to an important religious place.
