Principal’s Message
On Friday, as a part of our
Grandparents Day celebrations,
students presented their reused
milk bottles. There were some
creative ideas and contraptions.
My congratulations to all students
for the courage to enter the
competition and the effort taken
to transform this courage to
action.
Following on from the challenge,
we are now collecting empty and
rinsed out milk bottles. Childers
Tanks will recycle the plastic
from the milk bottles and create a
variety of products. There are
some wonderful aspects of this
sustainability project, including:
Teaching children about
sustainability and the
environment.
Reducing our footprint on
landfill.
Supporting the innovation
of a local Childers
business.
Please begin bringing in your
empty and rinsed out milk bottles.
The collection point can be found
in the undercover area. Thank
you for supporting your
child/children in the creation of
their milk bottle and for
continuing to support this
sustainability project by bringing
in your empty and rinsed out milk
bottles.
Warmest regards,
John Hinton

2016 Classes We are pleased to announce 2016 classes as:
Prep (approx. 14 students)
Year 1/2 (approx. 19 students)
Year 3 (approx. 12 students)
Year 4 (approx. 15 students)
Year 5/6 (approx. 27 students – please be aware this class will receive priority support)
Staffing hours have a direct relationship to enrolment numbers and, as identified above, most classes have room for growth. If new families were to enrol, additional resources and programs would be possible and would benefit our entire school community. Please help spread the word, spaces are available (with the obvious exception of year 5/6). To enable these class compositions, we are seeking applications for two class teachers. Advertisements have been placed through the Brisbane Catholic Education website and remain open until Tuesday, 3rd November. We have also advertised a fulltime position for the combined roles of Support Teacher and Curriculum Engagement Teacher. This new position will assist to enable our little Catholic school to continue the drive towards enhanced learning progress for all students. Teachers will be assigned classes once we are aware of our staff team for 2016. I am confident we will know who is teaching which class by the end of November. Please be aware, all teachers at St Joseph’s School work hard, well beyond their paid hours, for the benefit of children. Teachers will be assigned to classes under the authority of our School’s Leadership and with full confidence that they will work in the best interests of the children with which they have been called to teach.
2016 Fees and Levies Please find attached to the newsletter a copy of the 2016 Fees and Levies. This shows a modest increase in the annual fee and building fund. This increase is in line with the Brisbane Catholic Education recommended minimum. All fees, levies and building fund contributions are held at the school and utilised for student learning purposes. The voluntary building fund remains ‘voluntary’ for 2016 due to the vast majority of families contributing. By remaining voluntary, the building fund is tax deductable. If you are on direct debit this will mean approximately:
One child $36 per week.
Two children $48 per week.
Three or more children $58 per week. If your family requires assistance with payment, short term arrangements can be put in place. Please see ‘Fee Concession’ section of the 2016 Fee and Levies. Needed for LOTE We are after empty shoe boxes for a creative Italian activity. If you can help, please send them to the front office.

World Mission Month The focus of World Mission Month for 2015 is the Church’s outreach to the island of Madagascar, providing for the physical and spiritual needs of children. Access to clean water for washing, cleaning, cooking and drinking in Madagascar is extremely scarce. Children in villages have to walk great distances to springs and creeks to fetch water with containers. So how can we as a St Joey’s community help? Well the Prep One class are encouraging everyone to support their “Crazy Sock Day” on Thursday, 29th October. Wear your “Crazy Socks” and bring a gold coin donation that will be sent to Catholic Mission to assist their work helping people in Madagascar establish ways of treating their water supply and gaining greater access to clean water. Freddo’s will go to the best “crazy socks”! St Joseph’s Choir Performing at the Grace Lutheran Church Craft Bazaar.
