3/4D To start Term 3 off with a bang 3/4D produced firework artworks. The students
had to select four-coloured oil pastels to create their fireworks. They then
placed four dots on their artwork paper. Using a zig-zag motion, the students
then went around each dot and continued the pattern using each of their four -
coloured oil pastels until the fireworks joined together, making sure they didn’t
leave any white spaces! Once completed, they chose a coloured Brenex square
to mount their artwork. We all had an absolute blast making them!!
5/6D have been identifying qualities in
artworks. We have looked at the way
the subject matter is represented, the
use of particular techniques and the
effects that these have in their artwork
and on viewers.

PSSA 2017 PSSA Rugby League season has been a successful year for Noumea with the Juniors narrowly
missing out on the Semi-Finals, finishing fifth with three wins, three losses and a draw. The Seniors
qualified for the Semi-Finals with six wins and only one loss throughout the season. The Seniors will
play their Semi-Final on 18 August. A big thank you must go to all the parents and carers that come
down each week and support both of our teams.
Congratulations to Junior for making the NSW Invitation team competing at the Rugby League
School Sports Championship this week in Melbourne.

Athletics Carnival On Tuesday 25 July we held our Athletics Carnival at
Popondetta Oval. The sun was shining and all the students
were able to participate in a range of track, field and
novelty events. There was many a close finish and it was
wonderful hearing the students and parents cheering

KLA KAPERS
Open Classrooms In celebration of Education Week, Noumea had open classrooms on
Wednesday 2 August. We then had a picnic lunch under the COLA. Thank
you to all of our Noumea families and friends who came. It was a great
success!
All in the name of Science… Since the last edition of the Noumea Newsletter we have had a visit from our friends the ‘EnviroMentors’
from Blacktown City Council (BCC) late last term who delivered a presentation about ‘keeping our
waterways beautiful’ which included hands-on activities and games based on sound environmental
practises. This term is fast shaping up to be jam-packed with incursions, excursions and a science-
related event occurring most weeks. For example, our friends the ‘EnviroMentors’, returned in week 3 to
explain the importance of keeping our environment litter free. Closely followed by the first-ever schools
‘Fish-In’ in Week 4, where students participated in a fishing workshop. The event was organised by our
school in conjunction with the Dept. of Primary Industries and the BCC and had the students learning all
aspects of fishing from rules and regulations, knots and rigging through to catching and releasing. In
coming weeks we will celebrate both ‘Future Earth’ as part of National Science Week and Electricity
Safety Week. And to finish off the term on a high, we have planned visits from a forensic scientist who
will run a forensic workshop, as well as an astronomer and his mobile planetarium, so be sure to check
out the next edition of the Noumea News for all the details.
Forensic Workshop
In conjunction with Science Week, Mr Ford has booked a
Forensic Workshop for Stage 2 and Stage 3 on Tuesday 29
August. Students will have the opportunity to investigate a mock
crime scene, use a variety of scientific tools such as microscopes,
finger print kits, DNA models, and foot print impression kits to
help solve a crime based on real-life events. The school has run
these workshops in the past and it has proven to be very popular.
Book Week
Noumea Public School will be celebrating Book Week in 2017 with a couple of events. On Thursday
17 August, popular children’s authors Tohby Riddle and Peter Carnavas will be visiting our school,
talking to our students about their writing and illustrating.
On Tuesday 22 August, we will be having a Book Week Disco after school. To help celebrate Book
Week, all students are to come dressed as their favourite book character. Tickets are now selling in
the front office with further information to follow.
Woolworths Earn & Learn
2017
Woolworths Earn & Learn is back and it is now easier than ever to earn valuable resources for our school. In the last campaign, we benefited from the program by boosting supplies in our classrooms and earning new sports and science equipment.
It's simple to participate. From Wednesday 26th July to Tuesday 19th September 2017, when you shop at Woolworths, you can collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers from the checkout operator. Bring them to school and we will place them on a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet. There will be one Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco, and gift cards).
Attendance Draw- V8 Supercars at
Eastern Creek
On Friday 18 August, twenty students from Noumea will attend a free excursion to watch the V8 Supercars at Eastern Creek Raceway. The students selected to attend the excursion have had their names drawn from the barrel. All students who have had outstanding attendance throughout the year had their name added in the draw. It should be an exciting day!

Group Photos
Advancedlife Photography will be returning to our school on Wednesday 30 August to take all of
our sport, school leaders, dance, multicultural, drumming and Year Six group photos for the year. If
your child is involved in one of these extra-curricular groups, please ensure that they are at school
on the day, dressed in full school uniform. The photos will be on display in the front office later in
the Term. They will be available to be ordered after this time.

Library News
Thanks to all of the parents and students who supported the
library fundraising event by purchasing books at the Book Fair.
We were able to select approximately $150 worth of free
books from Central Book Supplies for the library.
A very special mention must be given to Mr King (Stacey
Goldsbrough’s grandfather). He very kindly donated a large
sum of money to our library so that we could purchase the
most popular books from the fair for students to borrow.
Thank you Mr King!
Kindergarten Excursion and 100 Days
of Learning
Kindergarten has had a very busy term so far! On Monday 24 July we went on an excursion to
Calmsley Hill City Farm where we got to go on a tractor ride, pat baby animals and even milk a cow!
We learnt a lot about animals, their habitat and what they eat. Everyone was well behaved and had
a great day! Then on Thursday 27 July we celebrated being at school for 100 days. We celebrated
by 100 day crafts and activities and even had a little party and presentation to celebrate! A fun day
was had by all.
Mt Druitt Concert
Noumea performed at the Mt Druitt Education Week Concert on Monday the 31 August. Miss Cris’
Junior Dance group performed to “Better When I’m Dancing”. Mrs Ernest’ Multicultural Dance
Group performed in beautifully sewn costumes thanks to the sewing skills of our very talented Mrs
Podesta. Miss Perkins’ Drumming Group performed “The Cups” song on our Darbuka drums. And
Mrs Hintons’ Aboriginal Dance Group performed a modern Aboriginal interpretive dance piece. The
students had a wonderful time performing and were especially excited to see their families and
friends in the crowd.

Year Six Fun Day
On Thursday 3 August Year Six held a fun day to raise
money for the Year Six Graduation. The day was a great
success with hairspray, nail painting, spider drinks, guessing
competitions and so much more! A fun day was had by
everyone and all students were extremely well behaved. Well
done Noumea!
