Skool Loop App Today has been the perfect opportunity to showcase the Skool Loop app. Unfortunately only those with it downloaded and ourselves here at school will have been able to appreciate the ease of sending or receiving the notice sent out regarding the postponement of Atiu Creek tree planting. Some of you might have seen the skool loop app. showcased on 7 Sharp earlier this week. I found it interesting that it is not just the 20 something millennials coming up with tech. apps but grandmothers down in the South Island. The beauty of this app is that it is free to the school thanks to the wonderful businesses that support us by advertising through it. So everyone please support them by downloading the app because not only can we instantly send notices, you have direct contact details of phoning, emailing or sms to notify us of absentees, view our school calendar and newsletters, you also have the direct contact links of all of the advertisers. Tapora School Speech Competition Thank you to those parents and family members who came along to support our students and be such a wonderful audience. Thank you also everyone for the delicious kai we were able to share at morning tea. The students were amazing, despite having a very short preparation time presented wonderful speeches and poems. The winners and second place getters in each section will represent the school at the Rural Schools cluster competition at Tomarata School next Thursday. The placings are announced later in newsletter. A notice will go home Monday with details and transport return slip. A big thank you to our judges Rochelle Gray, Dianne Beetham and Steve Jackson and to Mrs C for collating all the results. Health and Wellbeing (Warrant of Fitness) Check On the 7th August Maretta our Health Nurse gave every child a Health and Well Being Warrant of Fitness check. She was supported by Sandy (Teacher aide). This WoF was extremely successful in our eyes and we hope the parents who made use of the service found the same. We will continue to hold these checks at least once a year possibly twice. Dental Nurse and Boostrix Immunisation -The Dental Nurse : Due to unforeseen circumstances this has been postponed. We are awaiting further information. -The District Health Nurse will be at school on the 30th August to give the Boostrix immunisation to year 7 students. Reports feedback As we haven’t had any feedback regarding the new report format we will assume that you are happy with it and it gives you the information you need. Therefore we will continue to use it with only minor adjustments as we teachers get used to it. Assembly Our next assembly will be Friday 31st August at 2:15pm in room three. Not sure at this stage which school leaders will be running it.

  • Phone Books Our fundraising has provided the school and community with an absolutely wonderful asset. It has been great to see how much it is getting used out of school and in school hours. Our next vision is for a track around the school field with fitness stations enabling the children and community to use it for fitness and riding bikes whatever the season. Being a smaller school we are finding that we don’t have enough families to cover all the runs and have been very appreciative of the offers already made by community members to deliver books on a run. These books are the smaller already plastic wrapped ones so if you are a community member and you feel you could spare a few hours to drop off some phone books to help us out we would love to hear from you. Just give the office a call. Delivery starts September 7th and ends 16th. Ag Day Update We would like to step up Ag Day a notch and invite ideas and support so please come along to our meeting at school 5:30 - 6:30 29th August. (Wednesday) Pimp your Gumboot: This is a student competition with the gumboot to be decorated at school. If you are having trouble finding a spare gumboot let us know as we have 9 available at school. Design our School Billboard Open to all in the community. The BOT will be putting up a billboard sign somewhere on HW 16 so that people are more aware that there is a school out here. Rodney Cotton has a contact that will make it for us for free but we need to design it. This is an opportunity for all budding designers to get to work and create us an outstanding cool sign letting people know that Tapora School exists. The winning sign will be announced at Ag Day and there will be a prize kindly donated by Rodney Cotton. Get your entries to Tapora School office by 7th September. Further details available from the office. Nga Mihi Keryl Lee, Principal

There is a box inside the front door at school for all this. They would also appreciate you going online at www.terracycle.co.nz/colgategarden voting and vote for our school.
