Last day of Term 4 for students

and staff

From the Principal Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Term Four is flying past and we are already, almost half way

through the Term. At the beginning of the year, our school

was scheduled for External Validation by the Department of

Education. The External Validation required the collection

and annotation of evidence around all of the systems and

programs we currently run across the school.

An external panel made up of experienced principals

came in for a day and we presented our findings so that

we could be validated and assured that we were

providing the best possible environment, teaching and

welfare practices and support for all of our students. The

panel was very impressed by what we offer our students,

the teaching practices of our staff and the appearance of

our school and its environment and readily validated our

school for the next five years.

This Term, KT are studying the text, The Gingerbread Man. As part of the

background knowledge for the book, KT learnt the ingredients used for

making gingerbread. In Creative Art, KT had the opportunity to make

their own gingerbread man. Firstly, KT made the grey background for a

baking tray. Next, they drew all of the different shapes that make up a

gingerbread man. KT had to then cut out their shapes, glue them onto

their tray and decorate them.

This year 5/6A has been participating in a Buddies program with KT. This

program has helped the younger students learn the rules and

expectations of Noumea Public School and has given them a buddy that

they can turn to when they are out in the playground. During Week Two,

we made colourful fish kites together. 5/6A helped their buddy cut and

glue the fish together.

Stage Two Excursion to Brewongle Environmental Education Centre

On the 18 September, Stage Two students went to Brewongle Environmental Education

Centre. It was a wonderful, sunny day and we had a great time. We participated in many

activities such as, learning about Aboriginal Artefacts, we went on a Bush Walk where

we learnt about different Flora and Fauna and one lucky group “The Possums” had a

surprise visitor, a snake who came to say hello! We would like to thank the students for

their excellent behaviour and participation on the day and for all the teachers who came

along too!

All in the name of Science… Since the last newsletter students at Noumea have participated in two additional activities added to our regular

Science K – 6 programs.

The first activity was the implementation of a comprehensive inquiry-based and student focussed program

undertaken by students during Electricity Safety Awareness Week late in Term 3. The program is designed to not

only highlight the potential dangers associated with electricity but also its many everyday benefits as well as its

scientific explanation and developmental history.

The second event, also aimed at students K – 6, saw our school hall transformed into a mini observatory in the

form of a giant, grey inflatable “igloo”. The Skyworks Planetarium presentation was an ideal opportunity to bring

the science of Astronomy to our students in a fun, safe and informative manner. The presentation was a great

success and a big thank you must go to those teachers brave enough to remove their shoes and crawl into the

igloo alongside their students.

The Flipside Project 2017

Junior Aboriginal and

Contemporary Dance

Landon Beattie and Kathleen Whitton-Smith were selected to participate in The Flipside Dance Project in Newcastle. These two students attended rehearsals and then performed the dance production in Newcastle. This was a great experience for the students to participate in such a large dance production with other schools. If you would like to know more information about The Flipside Project, you can look at their Facebook page which is Flipside Youth Dance. We congratulate Landon and Kathleen for being chosen to represent our school for The Flipside Project for 2017. We also extend our appreciation for the support of their families in making this possible for Landon and Kathleen to participate in this event.

Concert

Excitement is building, as this year Noumea Public School will be holding an outdoor concert to celebrate ‘Music Through the Decades.’ The concert will be held on Tuesday 14 November and will commence at 3.00pm until approximately 5.00pm. Our school community are invited to attend the school at 1:30pm to enjoy a sausage sizzle and picnic with your children. There will also be a prize for the best-dressed person who comes as their favourite music artist. So bring your best outfit!

School Attendance

Each Term students with outstanding attendance receive an attendance award at a special assembly. To receive this award, students must not have more than two absences throughout the term. This includes partial absences (arriving late, leaving early). Students who receive an attendance award go into the draw to win a $50 Hoyts movie voucher. Attendance awards are also worth two points towards the school merit badges. Congratulations to Term 3’s lucky winner, Emmanuel from Year 2 who won the movie voucher, at our Attendance Assembly in Week 1.
