STEAM WITH RSC AND RR
I like having hard challenges and I really like working with the other
Oliver in Miss Rushby’s class – Oliver RSC
I like STEAM because I like working with the Rushbys' and the
challenges- Ella (RSC)
STEAM is where we make stuff and we have to try and make it float
if we’re making boats. We had to put pebbles in our boats on
water to get to the next level. You can try again next time if it
doesn’t work. Ruby W (RR)
Reception Camisa and Reception Rushby have been completing STEAM challenges
every week related to learning in other curriculum areas. The children have been
developing a variety of skills including team work, critical thinking and problem solving.
My favourite part of STEAM was the boat challenge because even
though it sank I was so impressed with myself. – Mason (RSC)
I like it when we were sailing the boats with rocks in. I learnt that you
don’t need to win all the time – Alexis (RSC)
STEAM is about when you make stuff and test it out and if you don’t get it
right don’t fuss about it- Amelie (RR)
We had to use newspaper to protect an egg. Mrs Camisa dropped

From the Deputy Principal
A Busy Term Term 4 continues to be the busiest and most exciting time of
the year and we look forward to many events before the end of
2017. It is wonderful to see many classes enjoying the spring
weather and taking part in different excursions. Many classes
have reported on these events in their fortnightly newsletters
and the photos and children’s stories have told us of the great
learning that has occurred. We thank the teachers for their work in preparing these
experiences for the children. It takes a lot of hard work to ensure a successful time.
All excursions are related to the Australian Curriculum and provide authentic learning
experiences for the children.
It is also a busy term as we are working on class structures for 2018. This process
takes time as each child is given consideration about the best possible dynamic she/
he will need to succeed in their learning. Staffing for 2018 is well underway and this
will be announced in the final newsletter of the year. The children will have the
opportunity to meet their teachers and classmates for 2018 in Week 9 of this term.
Some Good News for Catholic Education Recently we received some good news from Premier Jay Weatherill and Education
Minister Susan Close when they announced a major funding boost for Catholic
schools. Catholic schools in South Australia will receive an increase in recurrent
funding to 22% of Schooling Resource Standards (SRS).
This equates to a $14.3 million increase for Catholic Education South Australia. This
funding will have a direct impact on the 46,000 children in Catholic schools in South
Australia, including our children at All Saints. We look forward to continuing to work
with the Government to ensure that we continue to deliver excellence in education
for all our children.

Reception Orientation
Today we welcomed 57 children to our school for the first of two transition visits.
These children will be beginning Reception in 2018. It is an exciting time as the
children meet their new teachers. We welcome the children and their families as
they spend their two orientation mornings in readiness for next year.
2017 School Christmas Concert We are looking forward to our
annual School Christmas Concert on
Thursday 7 December at 6.00pm.
The theme of the night is the
Christmas Story told through
tableau and song. Each class will
help to tell the story of Christmas. It
will be a great community event as
we encourage families to bring
along a rug or chair and share a
picnic with your family before the
concert begins.
End of Year Liturgy & Year 7 Graduation
Our End of Year Liturgy & Year 7 Graduation is also a whole school occasion when we
celebrate and give thanks for a wonderful year of learning. We also acknowledge and
farewell the graduating Year 7 children.
This liturgy will be held on Tuesday December 12 at 6pm in the court yard.
It is an expectation that all children attend the liturgy and if you are unable to
participate please let your child’s class teacher know.

From the Religious Education Coordinator From The Director of Wellbeing
Bullying No Way! Action Day.
On Friday we enjoyed a very successful Bullying No Way! Action
Day here at school. Our day began with a whole school liturgy in
the Hall, focussing on The Golden Rule: Do unto Others as You
Would Have Them Do unto You. This is such a simple message
and is a foundational teaching for not only Christianity, but so
many other world religions. This message seems to prevail
through all times and places. It seems so simple, yet we know that in practice, it can
be difficult to achieve. So, on Friday we prayed for God's help to put these words into
practice and to treat others the way we ourselves would like to be treated. We ask
for your support, as parents and caregivers, to model and reaffirm this same message
to your children, so that together we can strengthen this Golden Rule.
Following our Liturgy, each class participated in bullying prevention workshops, with
a range of activities. There were many role plays, art works, games, surveys and
creative activities unfolding throughout the school. Meanwhile, some of our parents
and family members stayed for an Information Session in the Hall, facilitated by Liz
Keogh and myself. We aimed to share some key messages and supportive
suggestions to our families in this session. Additional support material is available in
the brochure we sent home to families on Friday afternoon, with suggested websites
available in it. There are still brochures available in the Front Office if you require a
copy.
All in all, we found the Action Day to be a successful experience and we have seen
our children become more fluent in their language and observations around bullying
prevention in the past few weeks. We thank you for your continued support in raising
awareness and reducing the harmful effects of bullying.

Baptisms
Congratulations to Alana and her
brother, Ben and Luke who have
recently been Baptised. Alana also
celebrated the sacraments of
Confirmation and Communion.
Family Mass at St Luke’s
The years 6’s and 7’s, along with the children at St John
the Apostle School hosted a family mass on Sunday 12
November. The children in the sacramental program were
presented to the community as they are continuing their
journey.

Congratulations to those children from years 3 and 4 who celebrated their First
Reconciliation this week. Shaylea and Poppy from 3S, Owen for 3P, Nicholas,
Hudson and Ben from 3H, Luke from 2BF, Cameron and Chloe from 4G and Shantelle
and Alex from 4P. We celebrated with a lovely liturgy
at St Luke’s on Tuesday 21 November.
The next step for these children will be preparation for
receiving the sacraments of Confirmation and
Communion, which will continue next year.

Dear Parents/Carers
The 2017 Annual General Meeting will be held this term electronically. All
reports will be sent via email with hard copies available from the Front Office.
If you would like to nominate yourself please lodge your nomination,
attaching a short biography, with the front office or via email at
[email protected] by the 27th November 2017. Nominees will
be published immediately after this date along with voting information.
You are encouraged to consider nominating for the School Board as it is an
important part of planning a strong future for All Saints Catholic Primary
School.
The children in the Middle Years have
been incredibly busy this term. We have
had many different experiences such as
our Photography exhibition, Year 6
Camp, Touch Footy carnival, Cardijn Cup
and Aquatics.
Children have also been busy in class
with a variety of learning experiences.
This term we implemented an Electives
Rotation where children were able to
experience working with other teachers
in the Middle Years unit.
The Electives included Art, Sport,
Technology, Sewing and Dance. The
feedback given to the teachers indicates
that the children enjoyed the opportunity
to try new and sometimes challenging
tasks.
As the end of the year draws closer, Year 7 children are busy with end of year
preparations for their Year 7 Graduation and the End of Year liturgy, which is
always a highlight for us.
The Year 6 children are preparing for the transition into Year 7 and are eagerly
looking forward to receiving their Year 7 windcheaters next year.
Our next Leadership Assembly will be on Friday 1st December at the conclusion of
the Year 6 assembly.

From the Resource Centre
End of Year Procedures Can all children, particularly those leaving the school, please be sure to return all library
books and readers to the Resource Centre by Friday 8th December (Week 8).
Accounts will be sent out to parents/carers for overdue, lost or damaged books.
There will be no school holiday borrowing due to stocktaking.
A big thank you to Joshua Goldfinch and Sue Little for helping out in the Resource Centre
and all the other volunteers who helped out in any way throughout the year.

This exciting programme is going to be launched at All Saints in 2018
Children's University Adelaide is a member of Children's University Australia which is also managed by the University of Adelaide. The Children's University concept is relatively simple: it offers superior educational experiences for children aged between 7 and 14 years outside of school and recognises their achievements through the award of formal certificates and graduations. The programme uses local educational and learning activity providers (including sports clubs, museums, galleries, school clubs) and has a strong emphasis on experience as a significant learning tool, acknowledging the value of the range of different learning experiences and environments in which children engage. Each child is issued with a Passport to Learning in which the hours of each validated activity are recorded. Once they have reached the required number of hours, children will graduate from the Children's University. Certificates are presented at graduation ceremonies held at Adelaide University. A number of staff members will be trained as official validators.

Dear Parents and Carers,
With the season of Christmas approaching, as a school, we are hoping to consider
those less fortunate. The school community would like to help the SEM gather
‘special treats’ to place in the Christmas Hampers. If it is possible, could your child
please bring a special treat in the form of biscuits, lollies or some soft drink over the
next 2 months.
Items can be left in the Front Office area or brought into
the 2 Gawley classroom please. If you know of any
families who may be in need of a Christmas hamper,
please let Sharmaine Gawley or Dolores McCluskey
know.

Playgroup is held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays in the transportable room closest to the school hall from 9:00-10:30am.
$2 per session per family.
Latest news: In 2018, Playgroup will run on 4 days! Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Little Saints Playgroup
The local Young Christian Students (YCS) group will be holding a quiz night at Cardijn College on Thursday the 17th of December at 6.30pm. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children (12 and under). We will also be holding a sausage sizzle dinner for a gold coin donation so bring along some loose change. The night will be lots of fun and we encourage you to bring along your family and friends for a night of trivia and games. We look forward to celebrating the end of 2017 with you.
