Dem Newsletter, News and Notices!

ICAS Writing and English results100 students participated in the Writing 2011 ICAS test. Our results were very encouragingwith 2 high distinctions, 22 distinctions, 23 credits and 53 participations awarded. Of the 154students who sat the English test 4 were awarded high distinctions, 15 distinctions, 46credits and 89 participations. Congratulations to all of our students. It is important to notethat ICAS is a rigorous test that is designed primarily for high achieving students as opposedto NAPLAN which is designed for the entire student population. This is important toremember when comparing the school’s or your child’s performance to the State result.

Action Learning at the DemDid you know that the Interns and the Bachelor of Education Year 4 Honours students

conduct action learning projects while they are here at the Dem? Read all about these

projects on our website under the heading Our Partnership with the University.

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY

The Premier’s Reading Challenge has come to an end and all entries were validated and

sent to the Premier’s Office. WELL DONE NORTH SYDNEY DEM!

We had 410 students participate which represents 60% of our student population, our

highest percentage ever.

3DH won the prize of the first class to complete the challenge with 100% participation. They

will have morning tea with Mrs Wearne in Week 9.

In addition 1JP, 1BM, 1SF had 100% completion which is a fabulous result. In fact in Year 1

80% of all students followed by 78% of Year 3 completed the Challenge. FANTASTIC.

We also had record numbers in Year 5 and Year 6 reading the required 20 books each.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVERS WERE:

Yuta Kasai (4SM) and Max Lo (KAC) who both read OVER 100 BOOKS for the Challenge.

What an achievement boys. CONGRATULATIONS!

Student Voices – Lavan Chelliah Week 8 Term 3

This week we have an exciting week with J Rock and Year 6 camp. Next week on Monday 12th

September we have the Semester 2 induction ceremony. Congratulations to all the students who

have been elected to represent their class! I would like to congratulate all the children who

performed in J Rock and all the teachers who helped to make it so spectacular. From Wednesday to

Friday Year 6 will be at camp and they are very excited and can’t wait. Year 6 is going to the Great

Aussie Bush Camp in Tea Gardens. On Thursday our school is having a teachers strike.

The class 5/6KS participated in a program called Maths Investigation and was awarded first in the

whole of NSW. Their investigation was on costly cars and researched the price of a car including all

features for example fuel, registration and accessories just to name a few. Congratulations 5/6KS!!

We are really proud of your efforts!

On the 6th of September all of Junior Choir went to a full day rehearsal. We loved hearing them

perform at the The Bay opening ceremony and the Erlian visitors assembly.

A reminder to all the students, anyone who wants Card Art must order by the end of this week.

Remember on Wednesday Week 10 we have sports day where everyone will dress up as a favourite

sports star or as a sport itself. If you dress up you must bring a gold coin donation that will go to The

School of St Jude.

Stay tuned for next week’s Student Voices article from Olivia Dashwood!

As this article went to print Lavan was at J Rock so he was unavailable for a picture.
