Holiday Health Basketball Benefit On Saturday, December 2, 2017, two JP Stevens HS seniors, Andrew Clemens and Chris Alise, participated in a Holiday Health Basketball Benefit at the Edison Job Corps. After reading the novel, The Pact (We Beat the Streets), students in Mrs. O’Donnell’s Senior English class, became motivated to learn about the authors, The Three Doctors: Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Rameck Hunt, and their foundation. Their premise of “Our Children Can Not Be What They Can Not See,” was demonstrated as each doctor also participated in the basketball game and the game was open to the general public. Spectators were asked to bring a new and unwrapped present for a disadvantaged teen. The stands were filled to capacity as dance presentations, fitness presentations, refreshments, and raffles were given to the entire audience free of charge. Fun was had by all and the spirit of giving was embraced.

FUN FACTS

Did you know that at one time images of Donald
Duck were banned from Finland because he
doesn’t wear pants? How Walt Disney missed that
crucial detail is a big mystery, eclipsed only by
the bigger mystery of why the rest of the free world hasn’t followed
Finland’s lead. *Disclaimer: This section is meant to be taken
humorously. Not everything I say here is actually a fact, or fun.
Wishing these students a very happy
birthday…into winter break!

Are you looking for a last-minute gift for that special someone? The JPS Interact Club is selling Rafiki bracelets from now until winter break!
In Swahili, the word for friend is rafiki. When you purchase a rafiki bracelet you are purchasing jewelry hand-made by women in Kenya to be a one-of-a-kind bracelet or necklace. Using traditional skills past down through generations she can earn her way to a better life with the money she makes from this. Additionally, proceeds from the bracelet sales help fund sustainable change around the world. Proceeds can fund education, healthy food, medical care, professional training, and clean water across the planet, from Kenya to Ecuador and even here in the USA! Rafiki bracelets are only $7 (WOW WHAT A DEAL), but supplies are limited! See any Interact Club member, or send an e-mail to mailto:[email protected] for more information!
Students from all four grades at J.P Stevens crowded into the New Gym one by one this past Friday to celebrate all the Winter athletes. Coaches and students from the Bowling, Basketball, and Winter Track teams were all cheered on by hundreds of students sitting in the bleachers. We even took a moment to congratulate all of the high-flying Fall athletes that made an All-County or All-Division team. All in all, it was a great episode of school spirit and very entertaining.

The Boy's Basketball Team played their first game of the season this Saturday, the 16th, against Monroe High School, where they succumbed to a tough overtime defeat. The Hawks have been flying past opponents during the pre-season so let's hope that the Hawks will continue their flight of good form and perform to the best of their abilities in their next game. The Hawks will be playing East Brunswick at home on the 19th of December where we hope to see them defeat the Bears. Be sure to come and support. Good Luck Hawks!!!!!
