MONDAY

Today we are focussing on science.

Lets experiment with gravity.

Page 10: WEEK COMMENCING 06.07.2020. MISS YOUNG

Galileo was a famous scientist in the 16th and 17th

Century. His most famous observation was that two

objects of the same size but different weights hit the

ground at the same time if they are dropped from the

same height. This happens because the force of gravity

acting on both objects is the same.

If a feather and a ball are dropped from the same

height (on Earth) they fall at different rates. This is

because the feather has more air resistance acting on it.

Air pressure acts on the feather from all directions

counteracting the force of gravity.

Page 11: WEEK COMMENCING 06.07.2020. MISS YOUNG

Galileo dropped two balls of different

weights but the same size off the

Leaning Tower of Pisa, proving that the

weight of an object doesn’t affect how

fast it falls.

However if a ball and feather are

dropped in a vacuum, where there is

no air resistance as there’s no air, the

ball and feather will hit the ground at

the same rate.

Use this to help you find facts

about Sir Isaac Newton.

There are lots of websites you can

use.

Page 19: WEEK COMMENCING 06.07.2020. MISS YOUNG

During his lifetime Newton developed

the theory of gravity, the laws of motion

(which became the basis for physics), a

new type of mathematics called calculus,

and made breakthroughs in the area of

optics such as the reflecting telescope.

Isaac Newton was born in Woolsthorpe,

England on January 4, 1643.

Your task is to complete the

research sheet on Sir Isaac

Newton.

You can use google to help you

find the answers.

WEDNESDAYToday we are focussing on drama

Page 28: WEEK COMMENCING 06.07.2020. MISS YOUNG

Today, your task is to complete a role play

and pretend you are Sir Isaac Newton!

You can chose what you role play, maybe

you could write a script first so you are

prepared?

I would chose to role play the part where

he makes his first discovery – think about

how exciting that much have been!

Page 29: WEEK COMMENCING 06.07.2020. MISS YOUNG

Think about the emotions and

what he would have said:

Happy

Excited

Elated

Scared

worried

THURSDAYToday we are focussing on design and technology

Page 36: WEEK COMMENCING 06.07.2020. MISS YOUNG

You Will Need

• Two empty paper towel tubes

• Scissors

• Masking tape

• Paint, markers, or crayons to decorate your

telescope

• Plastic for the lenses

Page 37: WEEK COMMENCING 06.07.2020. MISS YOUNG

Step 1 - Choose one of your tubes to be the inner tube. Cut that

tube lengthwise (all the way up the side). Wrap one edge of the

cut side slightly over the other edge and hold it in place with one

hand.

Step 2 - Insert the cut tube into the other paper towel tube. Let

go of the inner tube so that it can expand inside the outer tube. If

the inner tube is not sliding smoothly, remove it and wrap the

edge slightly tighter. Then reinsert the inner tube into the other

paper towel tube until it is just right.

Step 3 – decorate the telescope

Step 4 – attach any plastic lenses or unneeded plastic you have to

make the lenses at the end of the telescope.

Isaac Newton is considered one of the most important scientists in history.

Even Albert Einstein said that Isaac Newton was the smartest person that

ever lived. During his lifetime Newton developed the theory of gravity, the

laws of motion (which became the basis for physics), a new type of
