I enjoyed meeting with each of you during conferences. Report cards should come home today, hard copy. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the report card. I am looking forward to challenging your child as we start this new trimester. In Reading, we continued our theme, Around the Table. We concentrated on color words and read the poem “Yellow Butter”. In Fundations, our letter of the week was /r/. With the half days, we chose not to assess this week. R,r will be included in next week’s Fundations assessment. We will introduce the letter /g/ this coming week. Next week we will begin our Social Studies unit exploring major winter holidays in the United States. We will learn about different cultures by reading stories, making crafts and enjoying foods tied to the winter holidays. Our country is so lucky to have such a diverse population, enabling us to learn about different cultures. If you have a special holiday tradition that you would like to share with the class, please contact me asap so that we can schedule a time that is mutually agreeable. You must be HIB trained to come in. In Math, we worked on comparing numbers. The children are learning to identify numbers that are 1 more or 1 less than a given number. This is a great skill to work on at home, in the car, at dinner, etc. Please continue to reinforce number sense 0 – 20. December is a busy month, so, looking ahead: Game Day is scheduled for next Friday, December 14th. The PTO Holiday Shop is December 17 th & 18 th . A schedule and more information will be forthcoming. The children will be participating in a book exchange on Thursday, December 20 th . The wrapped, non-gender specific books are due on or before Tuesday, December 18 th . The school-wide sing-a-long and our Winter Holiday Party are Friday, December 21 st . Dismissal is 12:15 that day. Our winter break will be from December 22 nd until January 1 st , with school resuming on January 2 nd . During this busy time of year, we are all so lucky to have little ones at home to make this time of year special. The wonderment that is seen in the face of children with all that this season has to offer is refreshing and should be enjoyed. Have a wonderful weekend.
