Life ApplicationI can trust God to provide for my needs.

Level of Biblical Learning (Jesus)Jesus performed miracles because He is God's Son.

Typically, people want what they do not need and need what they do not particularly want. However, God's Word states that our needs, not our wants, will always be provided for: God will provide.•Read John 6:1-4. Do you know of people who

follow anyone or any philosophy that seems to be the "savior" of the day? Why did the people follow Jesus? Why do people follow Jesus today? Is it because of their need for a Savior or because of a "me-ism" type of religion?

•Read John 6:5-9. How would you have responded to Jesus' question? By directing the question to Philip, Jesus revealed not only the lack of bread, but the lack of faith in His disciples. Notice how the men responded in a very "fix-it" manner. They attempted to fix the situation in their own efforts, rather than watch Jesus and learn from Him. How often do we turn into the "fix-it" types and take situations into our own hands rather than ask for help?

•Read John 6:10-15. If you were the disciples, would you have doubted five loaves and two fish could feed 5,000 men? Jesus received this boy's seemingly small "offering." Jesus also takes our offerings and uses them in ways we many never comprehend. What an amazing picture of Jesus using what we give to bless others. What do you have to offer that Jesus can use?

•Think about how God provides for your needs. In what ways can you help children understand God knows about their needs? How can you help children trust God to provide for their needs?

Jesus Fed Five ThousandBased on John 6:1-15

After teaching the people, Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee. The people continued to follow Him. They saw the way Jesus healed sick people. Jesus and His disciples went up on a hill and sat down.

Jesus looked up and saw the people coming toward Him. He said to Philip, "Where can we buy bread to feed these people?" Philip said, "Even if we had 200 denarii (200 days of pay) worth of bread, there would not be enough for all of the people to get just a small piece."

Andrew said to Jesus, "There's a boy here with his lunch. He has five barley loaves and two fish. That is not enough to feed so many people."

Jesus said, "Tell the people to sit down." The people sat down. About 5,000 men, not counting the women and children were present. Jesus took the bread [pick up bread] and gave thanks. Then He gave the bread to the people. [Pick up fish.] Jesus did the same thing with the fish. The people ate as much as they wanted.

When everyone had enough to eat, Jesus told His disciples, "Gather the leftovers so nothing is wasted." The disciples collected 12 baskets of leftover bread.

The people were amazed at what they saw. They said, "This Man really is the Prophet." Jesus knew the people were about to force Him to become their king, so He slipped away from them.
