WEEK IN PICTURESApril 10th through the 16th brought mostly small surf but the line-ups were full of talent. We caught Cheyne Magnusson, Dane and Kelly Zaun, Matt Pagan, Dayton Silva, Jamie Meistrell and Matt Chernega tearing up the Hermosa Beach Pier.
Hermosa was the spot of the week. Check out Chris Wells (opposite page) and others taking advantage of the small but peaky waves.

Former South high surfer Natalie Anzivino (above) scored her fourth consecutive first place in the women’s open division.
Kelly Zaun won the junior boys division with waves like this (opposite page).
over 150 surfers, the largest field of the year, competed in 10 divisions. The contest was sponsored by Erik Nakaji’s Surf Concepts shop in Manhattan Beach. Surf that ranged from waist high to overhead throughout the five-foot tide swing, coupled with 80 degree weather, created ideal con-ditions for the contestants.
Lifeguard Kip Jerger (right), who was manning the 42nd Street, Manhattan Beach tower, where the contest was held, made seven rescues through the day, among them a South Bay Boardriders dad who was hit in the mouth by his son’s board during the micro grom competition

Latefor his heat, Dane Zaun ran down the beach, grabbed his jersey and paddled out into the perfect spot. Right away he caught 3 good waves tearing them apart all the way in. Maybe this is a new strategie?Photos: Jacobson
