Modality is how a writer expresses their attitude towards a topic. A writer can express modality by using modal words and expressions.

Words with high modality are used to show certainty about the likelihood of events. We use low modality words if we are unsure about something.

seconds how many pieces of paper did you pick up? Record your results.4. Challenge a member in your family to see how many pieces of paper they pick up on both backgrounds. Record the

results. Who picked up more pieces? Why?5. Run the experiment again. Did you pick up more pieces? Why/why not?6. Which background did you find it easier to pick up the pieces? Why is that?

Watch this video about sun safety

https://www.abc.net.au/btn/classroom/sun-safety/10533484

The sun gives off different types of energy: • Invisible infrared radiation, which makes

us feel warm. • Visible light, which we can see • Ultraviolet radiation (UV rays), which we

can’t see or feel on our skin, but can damage it if we get too much of it. This is how we get sunburnt.

Imagine you are packing a bag to go to the pool or the beach draw and label all the things you would need to take with you to enjoy your day in the sunshine.

Choose three items you have drawn and explain why these items would protect you from the sun.

Watch this video about water safety

https://www.abc.net.au/btn/classroom/swim-

safe/10529222The beach or pool can be a great place to cool off ,however, we need to remember to be safe.

Answer the following questions: 1. When is it safe to go swimming at either a pool or the beach? 2. When at the beach where are you allowed to swim? 3. When shouldn’t you enter the water at the beach? How will

you know not to enter?

What is a rip and how to identify one. Watch the video linked below

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=113&v=PuAlDTC_gIQ&feature=emb_logo

Rips are deeper, darker coloured waters and tend to have fewer breaking waves. They often have a rippled surface surrounded by smooth waters instead. Sometimes you will see things floating out to sea or foamy, sandy water flowing out beyond the waves. However, it is IMPORTANT to remember that rips don’t always show all of these signs at once.

Investigate what the 8 following signs and flags mean below.
