To all Pastors, Elders and Religious Liberty (R/L) Directors
Dear brethren, greetings for the New Year
Firstly, I wish to thank you all for observing R/L Day 2013. In particular, I wish to thank all those who
attended the conference wide R/L Day that was held at Andrews Memorial Church on January 26. I believe
that you will take back to your congregations a better understanding of what R/L is all about. I am aware
that for some reason or the other your church may not have yet observed this very important day. Please
ensure that this is done in your church. By doing so you are assisting your members to get a better
understanding of religious liberty from a biblical perspective, and also it is an opportune time to inform them
of their religious and civil rights under the constitution of Jamaica.
Sometime in 2014 all five conferences in the Jamaica Union (JAMU) will put on a R/L festival at a date
and venue which has not yet been finalized. You will be duly informed of such.
Remember that we are all our brother's keeper. Therefore whatever we can do now in the time of peace and
religious right let us help each other to advance the cause of the gospel before the time when this right we
now enjoy will be taken away.
Yours in the Master's service
Owen Thomas

To all Elders and Spirit of Prophecy Directors
Greetings!
Thanks be to God for the ministry of the printed page. Firstly, I must say thanks to all those who attended
the recently held joint Spirit of Prophecy (SOP) and Publishing workshop.
Let me hope that you are doing all that you possibly can to motivate and encourage all those brethren who
have not yet started, or finished reading the book "Christian Service" to do so.
By now your congregation should be well on the way reading the above mentioned book or maybe you've
already done so. Just in case you have not yet finished reading, please do so by the end of February so you
can start the next one. If your congregation is finished reading the first prescribed book, you may now begin
reading the next recommended one, "Evangelism" by E. G. White. This book is very appropriate for this year
2013, the Year of the Laity, as it gives tremendous insights into how every member can witness and reach out
to his/her neighbour effectively.
I strongly recommend that you give each member a certificate for completing each book and study guide.
However, you may prefer to give your certificate on completion of one or two books, or maybe at the end of the
year when more books are completed. It's a matter for you and your committee to decide how and when you'll
have this special service which definitely is an incentive. But please ensure that you have a ceremony by
possibly, inviting a guest speaker to address your congregation in recognition of those who have completed the
books and study guides. Certainly, this is a means to get more members on board.
Please be reminded that you may access ALL the spirit of prophecy books from the E.G. White Estate website.
SOP Coordinators, I kindly ask that you assist those members who don't have the book(s) or access to the
internet, to assist in any way you can. I'm certain that there is at least one person in your congregation who has
access to the net directly or indirectly. It is best to obtain the books in installments as it can be quite bulky and
possibly expensive!
For those Spirit of Prophecy and Publishing Directors who were not at the workshop at Half Way Tree Church earlier this year, please let me have your e-mail addresses by the end of February so that I can send out the presentations.
I beg of you SOP and Publishing leaders to work together as a team in your respective churches, and do all in
your power to encourage your members to get on the program and "study to show thyself approved unto God."
Yours in the Master's service
Owen Thomas
