    A Message from Rabbi Adler

    Chaveireinu HaYikarim,

I hope you and your family are well. Parshat Vayigash is

one full of drama. Yosef and Yehuda are quarreling with

one another over their brother Binyamin. Finally, Yosef

could no longer keep his secret and he reveals his

identity to his brothers. One can just imagine the shock

of Yosef’s brothers, which then turns to sheer joy. Yosef

then sends for his father, Yaakov, to join him and the entire family in Mitzrayim. The

Torah describes what Yosef sent to his father ולאביו שלח כזאת עשרה חמורים מטוב

Yosef sent 10 donkeys laden with the best of Egypt. However, it fails to מצרים ,

describe what might be the best of Mitzrayim. The Gemara in Megillah (16B) says it was

aged wine which senior citizens find very relaxing. Some claim that this wine was

manufactured by Yosef himself upon entering the dungeon at the directive of Pharoah.

Wine, usually used for celebration, symbolized that although Yosef’s life was miserable

at that time, he firmly believed that his fortune would change and would witness

happiness again. And it is this very bottle of wine, made by Yosef (under the tutelage of

the Dar HaMashkim), that he sent to his father. As if to say, “Pop, I could only imagine

what you were going through for all these years. But the wine showed me that you and

I will be together again one day to learn with each other and to enjoy your

grandchildren who you have yet to see.” This is the מטוב מצרים that the Torah

    identifies.

Our generation this year has experienced one of its most difficult periods. 323,578

Americans have lost their lives from Covid. Over 18 million have contracted the disease.

The ranks of the unemployed swelled from a record low in February of 3.8% to a high of

14.4 % in April. Education via zoom was the law of the land. Our Chagim were impacted

and our shuls were dark. It was difficult to picture going back to normal. But we all

thought of a brighter day and we prayed to HKBH to salvage us and the rest of the

world. The day that Pfizer and Moderna announced that they had produced a vaccine

brought tears of joy to thousands of doctors and nurses who had to cope with floors full

of those suffering in agony alone, without any measure of support. When a single

individual experiences that type of joy, Halacha says he should recite the bracha of joy

When the multitude experiences such joy, we are told שהחינו וקימנו והגיענו לזמן הזה .

to recite the bracha of . הטוב והמטיב I am asking everyone to join together this Shabbat

morning as you prepare to recite Kiddush prior to lunch that we all recite the bracha

together. . ברוך אתה ה׳ אלוהינו מלך העולם הטוב והמטיב

May we all continue to be the recipients of HKBH kindness for years to come. And for

    that, let’s drink a L’Chayim of Yosef’s wine.

    Yosef Adler

  • RINAT ROUNDUP

I hope you had a good week, and I hope you had an easy fast. The Rabbinic Search Committee recently sent a letter updating the membership on progress with the search process. I'd like to thank the entire committee, headed by Ari Mermelstein, for the many, many hours they've spent interviewing, discussing and researching the candidates. The committee truly has the best interests of the shul at heart. This Shabbat we have our regular indoor minyanim operating on schedule.

We will not be having any outdoor minyan this Shabbat. Youth groups will take place outdoors, and we have Parent-Child-Learning on Zoom with a Parsha Kahoot and a raffle wheel after Shabbat. Our weekly indoor minyanim are on a regular schedule, we hope you'll be able to take advantage of them. Sunday at 9:30am Rabbi Wiener will give a Parsha Shiur to kids in grades 3-6 on Zoom. Adult Ed brings us a National Library of Israel Event on Zoom at 10:00am. We have our regular weekly shiurim on Zoom and Rabbi Wiener will be giving a three part Tehillim series entitled "The Structure and Spirit of Tehillim" beginning this Tuesday at 7:30pm. Tuesday afternoon 1:00pm-7:00pm we will host our monthly blood drive in the Social Hall. For all of you who are able, please come and donate. Thursday night at 7:30pm Adina and Rabbi Wiener will keep us entertained with a fun Kahoot on "How Well Do You Know Your Assistant Rabbi and Rebbetzin." I hope you'll all join in the fun! I'm sure many of you have been closely monitoring the Covid vaccine information. This week brought me such happiness, seeing so many friends and relatives in the medical profession, who have given so much for our community, receiving their first vaccine dose. I look forward to the day that all of us will be eligible to receive the vaccine. Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom, Bina
