Handbook Review Please take some time to review the Parent & Student Handbook for this year. Students are responsible to read, and are accountable, to abide by the expectations outlined in the handbook. Pay particular attention to the areas on attendance (including tardy policy), iPad use, cell phones, student dress code, and the general code of conduct. Digital Citizenship On Monday, August 22 nd , Karen Haase of KSB Law Firm in Lincoln will be here to present information on the responsibilities and potential dangers involved with Internet and cell phone use. The assembly will be from 9:45AM – 10:45AM. This is extremely valuable information, and for some it can help prevent decisions that have lifetime consequences. Drills, Drills, Drills During the first weeks of school, Platteview High School will conduct a number of safety drills as required by law. The drills include fire drills, lockout and lockdown drills. In the event of a true emergency, all parents will be alerted through the NotifyMe app. Fall Play/One Act A new script has been chosen for this year’s Fall Play/One Act! It is a comedy called “Jupiter Jones: Rock Star Vampire Hunter” by Eddie Zipperer! There will be multiple parts available including at least 3 male and 10 female roles (some changes possible), chorus parts for transitions, possible extras, and understudies as well! Sign up sheets for both Cast (acting) and Crew (set design/costumes/makeup/managers/etc.) will be located on the bulletin board in Mr. Horner’s room on the first day of school. All are welcome to try out for an acting role and are welcome to join the crew if a role is not available. It is not a TEAM without both Cast and Crew working together to create a well produced show! Parking Lot Safety If you have been around Platteview High School for any time at all, you know that our parking lots can be very busy and congested this time of year. We are asking parents and students to pay special attention to the following safety precautions:

• The posted speed limit in the parking lot is 10 mph.

• Drivers are asked not be drive distracted in and around the parking lot area. This would include using cell phones while driving or being distracted by other students inside or outside of vehicle.

• No one will be allowed to ride in the back of, or on the outside, of any vehicle. All passengers must be properly seated and wearing their seatbelt.

• Please park inside marked lane spaces to allow other vehicles to move in and around the parking lot area. We need to leave access for buses and emergency vehicles.

• Students may park in the main lot or the north (dirt) lot. No student parking is allowed in between the HS and Platteview Central.

• Students may not linger inside their vehicles in the parking lot area.

• Please take extra precautions when exiting the parking lot onto either Platteview Road or 108th Street.

FCCLA National Convention Three of the Platteview High School FCCLA girls that qualified and competed at the national convention in San Diego this July received special recognition: Courtney Scholting, (event) Advocacy, Gold Jamie Janousek, (event) Teach and Train, Silver Maddi Miller, (event) Nutrition and Wellness, Bronze Red and White Scrimmage The Platteview Boosters will be hosting a BBQ Supper during the Red White scrimmage on Friday August 19th from 5-9 pm. Pulled Pork Sandwich, Chips, Drink and Dessert for $5.00. Student Athletes & Coaches will eat for free. Please consider donating food or your time in support of our athletes.
