Reading and leading intercessions at the
Parish Eucharist - please sign up! There is now a sign-up sheet in the church for those
who would like to give the Bible readings and lead the
intercessions at the Parish Eucharist.
At present, we’re keeping the pattern we’ve had over
the pandemic, with one person giving both Bible read-
ings each week, and a separate person leading the inter-
cessions.
We’d love new people to get involved with these things - if you’d like to sign
up, please do - and if you’d like to know more, please chat to Paul.
Holy Habits introduction Last Sunday Paul introduced the church to Holy Habits, which we will be
exploring together over the next three years. Please do watch his sermon on
the St Faith’s YouTube channel here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyurKzegF0c
The first of the 10 Holy Habits we will be exploring, starting on Sunday
10th October, is “worship”. We will be thinking about different aspects of
worship on Sundays and during the week in house groups and in a Holy Habits
course.
House Groups and other opportunities to explore faith Nurturing faith is one of our aims as a church, and to help do this we want to
start some new midweek groups, meeting either in houses or at the church.
This Sunday we will be asking everyone to fill in a card to tell us whether
they’re interested in being in a midweek group of some kind, and if so what
type.
Supporting Women
in Afghanistan Thank you to everyone who took
part in the Women4Women
raffle. The lucky winners were
Dave & Pam Ede, who are now
the proud owners of a big Aloe
Vera plant and accompanying
book. Congratulations to them!
We are delighted to report that the combination of raffle ticket sales and
donations has raised nearly £300 so far. We would be pleased to take any
further donations this week. You can give cash in a marked envelope to Ruth
in the Church Office. All the money will be given to a charity known person-
ally to one of our members and will be used to directly support
displaced women and their children in Afghanistan. Please do continue to
pray.
More Information about our Women4Women group is available here:
https://www.stfaithslee.org/women4women/
Many thanks - Bridget Dean, Women4Women chair
Cuppa & Company starts this week We are delighted to announce that Cuppa &
Company are returning to the Lowry Room in our
Parish Centre on 23rd of September from 2-3.30pm
We very warmly welcome past and new members to
join us. For more details please ring Cliff Rook
023 9255 1300.
Lee Choral Society Concert
7.30pm Saturday 9th October
at St. Faith’s Church, Lee-on-the-Solent
‘What good is sitting alone in your room?’
Come and hear LCS play …. Well, hear them sing actually!
Join us for an evening of tunes from shows including
‘Cabaret’ and Gilbert and Sullivan choruses,
featuring local soprano soloist Jennifer Parker-Lummis.
Just £5! Pay on the door
Traidcraft catalogues The new Autumn/Winter catalogues have arrived
showing Christmas gifts, cards, Advent calendars
and festive foods plus many other products which
will be available to order. Please take one and learn
all about Traidcraft.
The catalogues have taken on a new and exciting
format, giving information on the sourcing of
ingredients and materials used in their goods, plus
their organic and eco credentials. Nearly all the
packaging is either recyclable or compostable and all
goods sourced from abroad are transported by ship. Every step they take
brings Traidcraft closer to their dream of becoming carbon neutral. Please
support them as they strive to fight trade injustice in the world.
The team and I wish to thank you for your past support of the stall and we
hope you will continue to do so in the future. The next stall is on 26th
September. Many thanks, Cecily.
Harvest celebrations
& gifts -
Sunday 3rd October At our 3 morning services
on 3rd October we will be
celebrating Harvest.
Please bring with you an item of food or drink (no fresh produce please!) as
a Harvest Gift.
Newcomers Event
3pm Sunday 17th October If you’re new to St Faith’s in the
last year or so, we’d love to invite
you to a Newcomers event in the
Bulson Hall at 3pm on Sunday 17th
October.
This is an opportunity to get to know people, new and established, in the
life of the church, and to find out how you can get involved in our church
community. Please put the date in your diaries and join us that day!
Our vision is to be a welcoming innovative Christian community of all ages and all stages of faith, nurturing spiritual growth, and
representing God’s living presence in our town.
Lee Victory Festival
at St Faith’s
26th September Lee Victory Festival is a major
event taking place in Lee next
weekend, and St Faith’s is part of
it!
10am Two services at St Faith’s: In the Church - a more formal service
In the Bulson Hall - a service for all-ages
11am Outside the church:
Fine Voice Academy Chorus will be singing a selection of 1940s songs
and more, on the grass outside the church.
Stay after the services and enjoy the music
or come later and join in.
Cream teas will be available for purchase while we
enjoy the music.
Do invite friends, family and neighbours to
join us that day!

St Faith’s Connect:
A network of people being community together This week in our services Paul will be introducing St Faith’s Connect, a new
initiative at St Faith’s. One of our aims is to be a welcoming Christian
community. We know in a large church like St Faith’s this can be hard to do,
so we are going to create Connect Groups. These are smaller groups of
people who attend the same service and who perhaps live near each other,
who we hope will get to know one another and be community together.
Being in a Connect Group is optional, but we hope many people will choose to
be join a group, so we can be more of a community together.

For your prayers this week Collect for 16th Sunday after Trinity
O Lord, we beseech you mercifully to hear the prayers
of your people who call upon you;
and grant that they may both perceive and know what things they ought to do,
and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil them;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Those who are unwell: Rebecca Hawkins, Andrew George, Rona Johnson,
Ezra Robles, Deirdre Tanner, Bob Cooles, Gwen Rossevans, William Phipps,
Ellen Winchester, Alice Green (who has an operation on Wednesday)
Please pray for:
• Lee Victory Festival next weekend
• New government ministers, as they take up their new roles • Cuppa and Company, as it restarts after the pandemic
• Our PCC, as it meets on 21st September
Morning Prayer on Facebook We are planning to restart Morning Prayer on Facebook, but Paul would love
some people to share the leading of this. If you’d be interested in helping as
part of a rota, please can you let him know? We may move the time to
8.30am.
The word of God in a quiet voice
Most of us would love to have a clear, personal experience of God. Wouldn’t
it be great to see a vision, be visited by an angel or to have some miracle
happen in front of us? … Wanting the spectacular and miraculous fits in with
our overachieving and hardworking lifestyles…. We want the quick and
memorable. - How did that work out for Elijah? https://bit.ly/3hCdH7q
How do we interpret Old Testament narratives?
(Ed.) A Glasgow pastor offers 10 suggestions along with examples from
2 Samuel. Here’s are a few that jumped out: * Narratives tell you what
happened, not what SHOULD have happened. * Moralise, but not too much.
* Narratives are first and foremost about God: His holiness, grace, salvation
and justice. https://bit.ly/2VnviYt
