WEEKLY PLAN – FOUNDATION PHASE ACTIVITIES

NURSERY (Can we explore it?) The Park!

Our story this week is a Nursery favourite! ‘Shark in the Park’ (On YouTube) written by Nick Sharratt.

Can you join in with the story like we do in Nursery? Retell the story to your family. What did you see in the park? What is your favourite thing to do in the park?

Lots of birds live in parks. Have you ever seen a Blackbird? Tell your adult all about your favourite things to do in the park. Draw a picture of you in a park. What can you see? What is your favourite activity, the slide, the climbing frame, the swing or the seesaw? Make a craft telescope. (examples on YouTube) Use the telescope to pretend you are looking through it like Timothy Pope. Describe what you can see.

Are you a snail?

You will find this on YouTube Listen carefully to the information about snails What have you found out?

Can you find some snails in the garden? Snails like to come out at night. Where could they be hiding in the day? Design a snail... Look at the pattern on a snail’s shell. Can you make a snail?

How fast can you move? Create an obstacle course in your garden and see how quickly you can get around it. Ask an adult to time you to see how quickly you move. Challenge someone else in your family to complete the obstacle course. Were you slower or faster than them?

‘ai’ words ‘Snail brings the mail’ has lots of ‘ai’ sounds... listen carefully to the story on YouTube. Can you make a list of ‘ai’ words? There are lots of games and activities

Make a fact list about Snails... Where do they live? What do they look like? What do they like to eat? Who likes to eat snails? What can you do that a snail can’t?

Have another go and see if you can improve your time. How fast does a snail move? If you’ve been lucky enough to find one, see how quickly it moves from one place to the next? How long did it take them? Remember to be careful with the snails and take care not to hurt them! Snail races are fun, but just make sure they don’t get harmed!

Can you read The Whales’ Song by Dylan Sheldon. This is one of my favourite books Year 2. I hope you like it too!!
