REMOTE TEACHING SESSION: 9am-10am daily
Grade 56 students will receive a 1 hour face to face remote teaching session with their teacher each day. These sessions will
be run using Microsoft Teams and will focus on Reading, Writing, Maths or Inquiry.
The link to your child’s Microsoft Teams meeting will be sent to them via Microsoft Teams each morning.
Advice for accessing your child’s Microsoft Teams meeting:
Please log on 5 minutes before the start time.
Ask your child to organise the resources they will need prior to the start time.
If you have any questions or you are not able to access the Microsoft Teams meeting, please refer to the instructions
available on Sentral or contact the school via phone on 03 8766 4000 or email at [email protected].

telling us the type of angle, just write
if it is smaller than, equal to or
greater than a right angle.

Yesterday you looked at successful products and how they work.
Today you are going to be looking at services.
A service is a system for supplying a public need. Some examples are
- Food services o Fast food and drive
thru restaurants o Food delivery (uber
eats) o Food trucks and vans o Cooking deliveries
(hello fresh) - Transport services
o Public transport o Taxis/ride sharing o Petrol stations/car
wash - Community services
o Libraries o Home nurses or nurse
on call o Meals on wheels
- Home services o In home maintenance
(Jim’s mowing)
Today you are going to create a detailed flowchart which
explains how the service you researched in reading works

o Delivery of goods e.g online shopping/click&collect
Pick a service that interests you and do a bit of research about HOW IT WORKS.
Summarise your information ready to put in a flowchart for writing.

Yesterday you chose a successful invention to investigate. Today you are going to investigate a failed invention!
Some of these never really worked, others never became popular, and some are just not needed anymore!
1. Pick 2 of these texts to read and fill in the table below. If the answer to a question is not in the text then you may have to infer or think about why you think it is.
Invention 1
-
Invention 2 -
What is the purpose? Why was it invented?
Why did it fail or not become successful?
Part 1: Yesterday you chose a successful invention to investigate. Today you are going to investigate a failed invention! It could be a product or service. It could be a failure or just something that is now obsolete (no longer required)
To choose your invention you may:
- Choose one from reading - Choose one from this video of
inventions that failed the first time - Research and find your own failed
invention
Create a flowchart of how your invention
works (or is supposed to work)
Part 2: You are going to focus on the evaluation and redesign section of the design cycle.

What are some inventions that solve the same or a similar problem that have been successful?
1. Evaluate the invention and think about why it failed or was not popular.
2. Redesign the invention to make it more successful – think about how you could better solve the original problem
3. Draw a detailed labelled diagram of your new design and bring it to the online class at 9am tomorrow.

Task Microsoft Teams remote
teaching session
Teams class meeting begins
at 9am
Please log on 5 minutes
before and have the
resources listed below ready.
You will need:
Device
Find a book at home, or text online about a topic of interest and read (or listen to) it. You may like to use this website:
https://wonderopolis.org/
Tell someone in your family or post on Microsoft Teams, something interesting you read in your book or online text.
Log your reading on Kluwell.
In the inquiry session today you used the feedback of the class to redesign and improve your original idea.
Now you are going to create a flow chart explaining how it works.
Make sure to include
Technical vocabulary
Connectives
Precise verbs
A general statement and conclusion
Investigate the
playground!
Today you will be creating
and answering questions to
investigate another peer’s
playground. There are two
sections to this lesson.
Before you begin, you need
to take a photo of your
playground and post it on
Teams > Your home group
channel.
First section: Creating
questions.
Think about your
playground. What type of
mathematical questions
could you ask yourself and
would you be able to answer
them?
1. You are to create 5
questions that you

P:\Staff\Administration\!COVID-19 Preparations\Remote learning #2\Week 4\Grade 56\Grade 56 Week 4 Term 3 Remote Learning Weekly Planner.docx
could ask another
student about their
playground.
Second section:
Questioning & responding.
Now that you have your
questions you must do the
following:
1. Comment a question
on at least 5 different
peer posts.
2. Answer the questions
that other peers ask
you about your
playground.
Support:
Can you come up with
questions involving the
perimeter or area of the
other student’s playground?

Perimeter: is the distance
around the outside of a
shape.
Area: is the space inside the
shape.
Challenge:
Create a question that
involves other students
having to “solve” the answer.
Think about how you can
implement angles in your
question. Ask 3 different
students your “solving”
question.

Trick Shot Challenge
Last Friday our sports leaders
Zayne and Atifa announced a
trick shot sport challenge
during Assembly, they filmed
themselves completing a trick
shot.
You can be creative; it can
simply be throwing a paper
airplane into a bin from 10
meters away or kicking a
soccer goal from 50m away.
Or shooting a basketball /
netball into the hoop without
looking / backwards shot.
If you would like film a
video of yourself
doing a trick shot and
upload it onto teams
in the sports channel.
Have fun, it may take
a while and you may
need a device
recording you.
Below Mr Harrison finally
completes his challenge,
Indigenous Art
To celebrate Indigenous
Childrens Day on the 4th of
August, we are focusing on
Indigenous art!

*Focus on the lines, colours
and patterns in the pictures.
Your task:
Choose a landscape
from the book.
Draw a simple outline
of your landscape
Decorate your
landscape with
patterns and lines
inspired by the
pictures in ‘Why I Love
Australia’.

Think about each
of the different
lives you heard
about in the video.
Imagine you are
one of the people
from the video.
Write or draw how
you get water.
Think about the
following questions
when you are
drawing or writing
about your
experience-
- Where did you get
water from?
- Was it hard or easy to
get a drink when you
were thirsty?
- Does the water you
drink make you sick or
healthy?
Make a Playlist of
Musical Memories
A playlist is a list of
songs that are played
one after the other. To
make a playlist of
memories, you’ll need to
think of some songs,
then organise them into
a list. For example:
Song Artist/
Band Memory
To start recalling
memories, think back to
songs that remind you of
particular times in your
life. You may have
heard a song:
On a day out
On a family holiday
At home with a
special person
COMECOCOS
Comecocos is Spanish
for Chatterbox
This week, we are
making a chatterbox
using Spanish numbers,
colours and stretches!

help you get started:

Also, watch Mrs. Long do
several trick shots:

To create your landscape you
could use:
Pencils
Textas
Paint
Chalk
I chose to do a desert
landscape in chalk on black
paper.
Challenge:
Indigenous people like to use
natural materials that they
find in their environment to
do their artwork. What else
could you do your artwork on
other than paper? Have a go
at drawing/painting our
animal on something you find
in your environment.
At school
These songs could be:
Family songs
From an assembly
From a show
Something you have
danced to
(Next week you are going
to make an album cover
for your playlist).
