When we talk of
creativity, we often define it in terms of talent, originality, fashion, trends, and award winning innovation. However, if we want to come out successfully in business, we must think differently. Marketing is said to be the best way to reach your target customers easily.In marketing however is one key tool we can not under-rate or just assume; the power of advertising. Advertising entails formulating an idea in a creative way, putting it in the best media that can pass the message (reach the expected group), and then relaying it to them. When we simply follow trends, we are resorting to a form of hit-and-run marketing without any real substance. When we shift our focus towards defining and conveying a genuine message, we can produce great campaigns that move merchandise while building a strong brand. We need to learn to press the right button when we need to have the gates of cash-flow opened for us. This calls for a sales campaign to get the right goods to the right people and at the right time. People do not want to be sold to, but they love to buy things. Taking the time to do the research and defining your

opportunities is the first step in developing a real campaign concept. Does this mean you have to beat yourself up trying to develop the most creative campaign known to man? Of course not.
But, you do have to develop a memorable concept that enforces your competitive advantage and brings your message home to the only people who really matter — your customers.
Three steps for creating an effective campaign concept But there are three steps that take a bit of effort… and you really should follow them:
1) Determine every distinct advantage you have over your competition.
2) Focus on the strongest one point

3) Write a creative work plan to define where you are, where you want to be, and how best to get there.
At this point you’ve laid the
groundwork for developing a real concept that will achieve a real goal. Now, during the creative process be critical but non-judgmental, record every idea that comes up, and try not to overlook the obvious. Implement any number of methods for idea generation — mind mapping, group brainstorming sessions, or hiring a professional creative team — but always stick to the criteria as defined in your creative work plan. You’re sure to end up with a solid concept that will give you more bang for your advertising buck and contribute to your long-term success.
The killer tip: Use creativity to make an emotional connection with your customers while maintaining a message that appeals to their rational thinking.To wind up, we touch on one of the most critical thing in the world of “wooing” the client; consistency. If you really want to have advertising work best for you, use the “create-place-be consistent” method which many successful companies in the world today have all along (even after stabilizing in the market) applied to be where they are today. This is the kind of method that a firm comes up with an advert (be it be their own or through the advertising agent), places it in let’s say a magazine, runs it again, again and again as a matter of consistency. This helps in letting your target clients aware of the products you have in the market, including your pricing and new arrivals. Other advertisers do so to inform customers of the offers they have and lastly, others do so to keep on reminding that customer that “yes we are still here”, which mostly applies to stabilized companies. According to a recent study, consistency was seen as the most important tool of maximizing of the fruits of advertising, with firms that advertised less frequently showing a less consistent growth in their clientele base.Also always remember “quitters never win and winners never quit”. Having learnt this, there is no doubt that if you apply the same in your business, you are definitely the winner.

Kenya is poised for a technology explosion. The introduction and rapid adoption of mobile phones doubling in the few years demonstrates the hunger for technology and the population’s ability to adapt and adopt. Other key factors that augur well for ICT in Kenya are its history and position as the entry point for commerce,

By PETER MUSAThe Coca-Cola Company is seeking to dig deeper into juice market with announcement that it will expand its capacity to become yet another market leader in the juice category in Sub-Saharan Africa region.Company’s General Manager for still (non-carbonated) beverages for Central East and West Africa, Lionel Marumahoko said since last year CocaCola has built a strong foundation for this shift in strategy when it entered into a partnership with the Gates Foundation to work with 54,000 small-scale farmers of mango and passion fruit in Kenya
and Uganda to join our supply chain.“This effort entailed sourcing of raw materials (fruit) locally, partnering with local fruits processors and restructuring our juice bottler -Beverage Service Kenya (BSK). We now have firm grounding for ourstrategic shift as we gear up to become the market leader in juice & juice drinks category regionally,”
Marumahoko said.He said the company had entered into a partnership with a local juice processor to receive and process the pulp (the raw material for juices) and was in the process of setting up another processor in Uganda by October this year.In this backward integrated model, the farmers deliver their produce tothe processor which in turn delivers the pulp to the juice bottler (BSK)for the final making and packaging into ready drink. “This end to end integration is what we call from grove to glass. The povertyis the kind where you go empty, with no hope for the future. It is the kind where you watch your lovedones die in agony and writhing in pain, because they cant get something to eat. The kind where you hear yourrelatives calling out death because they are tired of the infinite ache in their underfed bellies.

Central Banks open route for friendly trade
Investment and banking opportunities are lying in waiting between Kenyans
and Mauritians. The Central Bank of Kenya and the Bank of Mauritiussigned a memorandum of understanding Monday which will facilitate trade and business opportunities between the two countries. In the signing ceremony at Central Bank of Kenya Buildings, Governor Njuguna Ndung’u said the agreement will enable Kenya and Mauritius to supervise the activities of the banking sector players from either countries, which in turn is going to make it easy for the two banks to authorizeoperations of people interested in offering banking and financial services inthe two countries.
The Bank of MauritiusGovernor, Rundheersing Bheenick said Kenya had made a major stride onmanagement of Micro-Finance Institutions (MFIs) which is going to turn about
lives and he added that his country would soon take a lesson or two on how tointroduce, entrench and streamline MFIs in his country. “Kenya has been on the lead in micro-financial banking and we can grow more by sharing on what the bank is doing in the region,” Bheenick said.The Senior Bank ExaminerSupervision Department, Bank of Mauritius, Ms Lily-Claude Bastien-Sylva,saidMauritius’ SME sector is at its infancy and will need financing. “We don’t havemicro-finance institutions in Mauritius. Those in the SME sector have been coming to us saying that the major banks have been unable to finance them. I think lessons from Kenya will help us a
lot to establish such financial institutions,” Ms Sylva said. Bheenick said the current global economic crisis should drive us towards increased convergence until we realizeone economy in one United States of Africa and one Central Bank. Currently, Kenya has banks and financiers intending to establish in Mauritius. Also banks in Mauritius would want to establish their services in Kenya.I & M Bank and Britax Company have already established a presence in Mauritius while other financial institutions arealso considering exploring opportunities in Mauritius. Similarly, banks from Mauritius have direct and indirect commercial relations with our Kenyan institutions. The signing of the MOU will set forth a pragmatic approach for cooperation andsharing of supervisory information for banks and other financial institutionsseeking to set business in Kenya and Mauritius.“We should also ensure that any systemic risk that may be posed by one bankoperating in another jurisdiction is mitigated and promptly brought to the
attention of the home regulator. The MOU will thus enable us share a wide range of supervisory information on a more defined framework,” Prof Ndung’u said. Mauritiusis anisland nation off the southeast coast of the African continent in the southwestIndian Ocean, about 900 kilometres east of Madagascar. It is a member
of the nSouthern African Development Community, the Common Market for Eastern andSouthern Africa, the African Union, La Francophonie and the Commonwealth of Nations. With a population of 1.3million, Mauritius has an upper middle income economy. Bheenick said up to this time, fuel and food prices have pushed inflation to 5.6
percent from 1.7 at the close of 2010. As a result, this year’s annual growth late willbe affected, reducing by 1.1 percent from 4.6 percent last year. The process of establishing formalcooperation between the Bank of Mauritius and the Central Bank of Kenya started in 2009.
