Wehocoat-field joint coating at site Field joint is oſten the pipeline’s weakest link. Uponor Infra and Borealis have deve- loped a new –patent applied–system for coating of field joints. The system is based on Borealis newly developed Borcoat™ material and the Wehocoat machine developed by technology department of Uponor Infra The Wehocoat Machine is a device specially developed for extruding a molten PE based polymer film onto a steel pipe field joint area for joint protection. This field joint coating method can achieve a joint at site conditions which can fulfill the mini- mum demands as stated in the ISO - FDIS 21809-1 for a factory coated steel pipe and is defined according to ISO 21809-3 section 5E. Wehocoat - field joint coating at site

Description

The Wehocoat Machine is lifted onto the pipe and the claps are then fastened around the pipe.

During the epoxy application phase, the steel pipe is heated up by machine induction heating system and the epoxy powder is then applied.

After the epoxy phase the machine rotates around the pipe while the flat die applies molten polymer on the field joint and overlap area creating the desired width and thickness of coating with excellent bonding between the factory coating and extruded polymer.

A precise and uniform distribution of molten material is achieved by the correct combination of: speed of application, pipe temperature, pressure on the press roller and preparation of the field joint.
