    1. Starting Phase

    Consuming vegetable broth is impor-

    tant during the Starting Phase to supply

    your body with additional nutrients.

    The goal of the Starting Phase isto reset your metabolism in or-der to increase your fat burning

    process. You can stay in this phase forjust a couple of days or extend it up totwo weeks, as long as you feel good.

    During the Starting Phase, you will notconsume any solid food but have three

    Almased shakes a day as well as aminimum of 8-12 cups of calorie-freeliquids (e.g. water, fruit tea, herbaltea).

    You can also have 1-2 cups of coffeedaily. Fluids are very important duringthis phase to avoid dehydration and toflush out the body since it detoxifiesheavily during the Starting Phase. Youshould also prepare a fresh vegetablebroth and consume it between yourAlmased shakes. The vegetable brothprovides you with important vitaminsand antioxidants to fight free radicalsyou may be producing during thisphase. It will also help to curb your ap-petite in between meals and will add toyour daily amount of liquids. In orderto make the vegetable broth, simply cutabout 1/2 lb of vitamin-rich vegetablesinto cubes, such as spinach, broccoli,carrots, tomatoes, peppers, onions, leek,etc. Add about 1.5-2 quarts of waterand cook until soft, approximately five

    minutes in a pressure cooker or longerin a regular pot. Pour the cooked vege-table broth through a strainer to filterout the solid pieces. You can season thevegetable broth with spices and herbs,but go lean on the salt.

    You should not consume alcoholic bev-erages, sodas and fruit juices during theStarting Phase and limit their consump-tion throughout the rest of the dietbecause of added calories and sugars.

    When I started architecture school in 2002, I was

    5'10" and 160 lbs. The non-stop stress and ex-

    treme hours of architecture school took a huge

    toll on me. By the end of sophomore year, my

    weight had sky-rocketed and my metabolism

    was 200 lbs. After many other failed diets, I was

    desperate to find something that would work fast,

    but was safe, healthy and would make me feel

    good. When I finally found Almased (through

    2. Reduction Phase

    After the Starting Phase, you moveon to the Reduction Phase inwhich your body actively burns

    fat and sheds those unwanted pounds.You can stay in this phase until youhave reached your desired goal weight.

    During the Reduction Phase, you willhave two Almased shakes and one

    regular, well-balanced meal.

    Ideally, you would have this meal forlunch and consume your Almasedshakes for breakfast and dinner. How-ever, you can alternate this schedule ac-cording to your daily routine, e.g. haveAlmased for breakfast and lunch andeat the regular meal for dinner. The mealshould have around 500 calories andshould consist of plenty of raw, steamedor cooked vegetables, lean protein suchas chicken, fish or tofu, and a small serv-ing of whole grains like brown rice,

    whole wheat bread or whole grainpasta. You can also enjoy some low-fatdairy products such as plain yogurt orGreek yogurt, or a handful of nuts.

    Keep in mind that beneficial oils like ol-ive oil (especially extra virgin olive oil),flaxseed or canola oil have essential nu-trients such as omega-3 fatty acids and

    should therefore be consumed on a dai-ly basis, in moderation. We recommend2-3 tablespoons daily. You can subtractthe oil you add to your Almasedshakes from this amount. You shouldlimit the amount of fruit you consumeduring the Almased Diet. Fruit con-tains fructose, which can disturb theweight loss process. Therefore, we rec-ommend that you eat vegetables ratherthan fruit.

    It is important that you continue todrink a minimum of 8-12 cups of calo-rie-free fluids throughout the day. Youshould avoid snacking in between mealsas this burdens blood sugar and insulinregulation and blocks fat burning.

    Example for a Reduction

    Day meal:34 oz of skinless

    chicken, 12 cups of vegetables

    or a colorful salad with olive

    oil and vinegar, and cup of

    brown rice. Remember to keep

    drinking plenty of fluids.

    Weight Loss

    I now wear asize 6 instead of the

    size 18. I feel somuch better.

    On Easter 2010, I weighed 178 lbs.

    I had tried dieting and would lose

    10 lbs, then get tired of trying and gain

    it back. Right before Easter, my size

    16 jeans were too tight, so I bought a

    pair of size 18 jeans.

    I put them on and wore them, but

    kept feeling "this is so crazy. I do not

    want to be like this!" I had seen your

    3. Stability Phase 4. Life Phase

    Once you have reached your tar-get weight and your healthybody fat content, you begin the

    Stability Phase. This phase will get yourbody accustomed slowly to an increasedcalorie intake and will stabilize your me-tabolism on a level where fat is activelyburned. This ensures that you maintainyour new weight long-term. You will

    also continue to lose weight during thisphase, but at a slower pace.

    During the Stability Phase, you willhave one Almased shake and tworegular meals per day.

    The same rules apply for the meals as inthe Reduction Phase. Preferably, youshould consume your Almased shakefor dinner, but just like in the ReductionPhase, the schedule can be adjusted toyour daily routine.

    Keep in mind that you have entered intoa critical phase. You need to accustomyour body slowly to an increased calorieintake. Remain in the Stability Phase forseveral weeks to guarantee the emptiedfat cells stay empty and avoid the yo-yoeffect. With perseverance and sensiblefood, you can manage your new-foundtarget weight. In this phase, it is still im-portant to drink a minimum of 8-12 cupsof calorie-free liquids per day.

    After the Stability Phase, youmove on to the Life Phase.You will live life to the fullest

    while continuing to enjoy Almasedas part of your daily meal plan.

    During the Life Phase, you can havethree regular meals per day, plusone delicious Almasedshake in

    Keep in mind the rules for the mealsin the Reduction and the StabilityPhase. Avoid snacking. To keep themetabolism active, 50 g of Almasedshould be taken daily in addition.
