AWAITING THE SALVATION OF GOD The world does not seem big enough to contain the jubilation of the first reading. In the Gospel reading, the Roman empire isn’t big enough, either. The great powers of Rome are named and made to stand waiting for the arrival of God’s salvation. And we find Paul meditating joyfully on what really matters. According to Baruch, the city of Jerusalem is like a person standing on tiptoe looking for God’s salvation, which is coming from the east. Those who were led away on foot, heads down, now come back, a proud people. Why, the very way is smoothed out. The path is lined with fragrant, lush trees. It can’t get any better than this, can it? Well, yes, it can. For a voice calls out in the desert. Here is the beginning of the salvation of God.

ANGEL TREE TAGS

We don’t have actual Christmas Trees this year, but the Angel Tree baskets are available at the back of the church.

When you take a tag from the basket, please make sure you put your name and phone number next to the

family number you take. We ask that you get an outfit (one shirt/top and a pair of pants) with a toy for each child. Please have all gifts wrapped and labeled with the child’s name and attach the Angel tag to the gifts as well.

Please deliver all gifts by December 11 to Sr. Carmen at the parish center or to the church office.

If you have any questions, you may call Terry Vacca at 846-3315. Thank you for helping to bring joy to the children this Christmas!

NEEDY MINISTRY

Please continue to bring in your non-perishable food items to the “Food for Life” area of the church.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to distribute food baskets to 370 families at Thanksgiving, and we expect to help at least the same number of families with food baskets at Christmas. This means we are helping over 1,000 children. Thank you and God bless you for your continued support!

The Office of Ethnic Ministry and the Filipino Diocesan Council of Reno Invites the Catholic Community of the Diocese of Reno to Celebrate

“Simbang Gabi” Christmas Novena Masses

"Simbang Gabi" is a Filipino Christmas tradition consisting of nine dawn masses in preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ. The Simbang Gabi used to be celebrated in the early morning. But, over the years, some urban parishes now celebrate the Misa de Gallo (mass of the rooster) in the evening in order to accommodate the needs of the members of the community. The Simbang Gabi tradition is practiced by many Catholic Filipino communities around the world. No matter how or when this celebration takes place, the Simbang Gabi is a strong indication of the depth of Catholicism among the Filipino people. This beautiful celebration will be celebrated in the Diocese of Reno, starting with a Sending Forth Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral, presided over by Most Rev. Randolph Calvo, on December 15th at 7:00p.m. The rest of the novena will be celebrated at 7:00p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, except December 21, it will be celebrated at Little Flower Parish at 7:00 pm. Every night a different priest will be the main celebrant. Please join the Filipino Community to celebrate this beautiful Christmas tradition. ALL ARE WELCOME!

For information please contact: Maripaz Ramos, Diocese of Reno, at 775- 326-9423 or E-mail at [email protected]
