A tradition of innovation and excellence Our maritime roots stretch back generations, when sailing ships still plied the great oceans and a true sailor couldn’t claim his rightful place until he’d been around the Horn a time or two. With 3,200 miles of shoreline, 7,800 lakes and 50,000 miles of rivers and streams, it’s only natural that Washing-ton State would play a central role in the maritime industry and international trade.

In fact, more super yachts are built in Washington than in all the other 49 states combined. Each year, 8 to 10 of these luxurious ships are launched by area shipbuilders. More than 2,100 companies engage in our maritime sub-sectors statewide, including passenger transportation; boat and ship building, repair and maintenance; maritime logis-tics and shipping; fishing and seafood products; and maritime support services . These companies are engaged in a number of markets, including military craft, custom kayaks, luxury yachts, marine design and architecture, after-market products and services and global exports.

Well respected brands, world famous names If you are in the maritime industry and want to be in good company, Washington State is the place to be. Companies such as Northern Marine, All American Marine, Bayview Composites, Christensen Yachts, Dakota Creek Industries, Harmon Canoe, Sunstream, Platypus Marine, Trident Seafoods, Vig-or Industrial, Foss Marine Holdings, Delta Marine and Safe Boats International all have operations in Washington.

Water runs deep in our veins It should come as no surprise that Washington is a sailor’s dream. Our boat usage per capita tops the nation – 250,000 personal watercraft are reg-istered in the state – and our waterways are filled with boats of all sizes and shapes year round.
