SESSION V: “The Magdalene Laundries: A Case Study of Church- and State-Sponsored Discrimination against Women” Marie Conn, Ph.D., professor of religious studies,willshareinterestinginsightsintotheMagdaleneLaundries,whichrepresented anIrishoffshootofVictorianandHanoverianEngland’sso-called“RescueMovement,”which,combinedwiththeContagiousDiseasesActattemptedtoreducethespreadofvenerealdisease.InIreland, theEnglishsystemwastakenoverbytheCatholicChurchand
