Statistics

• - Numerical Data• i.e. – Michael Jordan has won MVP of the NBA

Finals in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998.

Mean

• - The average value of a set of numbers• i.e. – Michael Jordan, in 1987-88, scored 3041

in 82 games. What is his average points per game?

• Total amount of points/Amount of games played

• Answer – 37.1

Medium

• - The middle number of the set of numbers• i.e. – Michael Jordan has won the MVP award

in the NBA five times. He won it in 1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, and 1998. What is the medium?

• Answer– 1992

Mode

• - The number that turns up most frequently• i.e. – During Michael Jordan’s 15 year career,

he averaged 83%, 82%, 83%, 81%, 83%, 83%, 84%, 78%, 84%, 85%,79%, 85%, 84%, 85%, and 84% at the free throw line. What was his mode?

Range

• - The difference between the highest and the lowest number in the set of numbers.
