Shaking hands
•polite way to greet anybody, but….
•with women and older people, wait till they offer their hand
Punctuality
• In Hungary arriving on time is appreciated
• Lectures begin at 8.30 am
•….. at 8.30 am exactly… Sorry!!
• Lateness is considered impolite
•Consider the people waiting for you
•Please be punctual..
During lectures and seminars, please…..
• pay attention to the lecturer
• mute your phone
• don’t eat
Be polite!Hungarians are still a little “old-fashioned” in
matters of courtesy….
• Open doors for women (and older people) • Allow them to go ahead of you
Traffic
• The road is for traffic - pedestrians must use footpaths
• Cross the road on a zebra crossing
• Pay attention to traffic lights: Red – stop, Yellow – wait, Green – go!
Protect your environment
•Keep your room, classroom and communal spaces clean
... especially the bathroom and kitchen
•Put all rubbish in the bin
•Hungary also uses selective waste collection…
Live and let live
expresses the idea that everybody should
be able to live their lives in the manner
they want to, but meanwhile everybody
has to be tolerant with others!
