The Little Sisters care for 86 elderly residents in St. Anne’s Home in San Francis-co, and most of their financial support comes from the generosity of people like you, beloved brothers and sisters in Christ/. Any assistance you are able to give will be deeply appreciated. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION It’s high summer now, school is out, the pace of work slows, and some people drift away. There are visitors in the churches every summer, and familiar faces are “among the missing.”

Some find the summer’s call more appealing than the summons of the church bells. Many, however, would not dream of missing a Sun-day, and so they make their way to Mass in unfamiliar places, watching the locals for clues as to when to sit or stand, where the Communion stations are. In answering the call, they keep the “sabbatical” rhythm of the Christian life: every seventh day, the Body of Christ assembles for worship. For centuries, there was no obligation to Sunday Mass in the sense of a written law, but Christians have always yearned to be to-gether on Sunday. In the city of Abitina, dur-ing a persecution by the Emperor Diocletian, a group of Christians were urged to stop wor-shiping together on Sundays. They respond-ed, “Then take our lives, for without the Sun-day we cannot live.” By a curious coinci-dence, the appointed readings today center us on thoughts of peace. On our Independence Day, the experience of worship situated us in community, and evoked a commitment from us to be advocates of peace in all aspects of our society’s life.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading —As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you (Isaiah 66:10-14c). Psalm — Let all the earth cry out to God with joy (Psalm 66). Second Reading — May I never boast ex-cept in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (Galatians 6:14-18). Gospel — Jesus sends out the seventy-two (Luke 10:1-12, 17-20 [1-9]).

Dear Friends, Stewardship is composed of time, talent, and treasure. I found this article on how people spend their time. It describes how people in the United States use some of the 10, 080 minutes that make up one week: Sleeping: 8.67 hours per day Working: 3.18 hours Watching TV/Videos: 2.82 hours Eating and Drinking: 1.22 hours

Shopping: .76 hours Grooming: .67 hours Household Chores: .60 hours Preparing Meals and Cleanup: .54 hours Child Care: .43 hours Religious and Spiritual Activity: .15 hours Pet Care: .09 hours Now that we have daily Adoration, Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 5pm, couldn’t we all spend more quiet time with the Lord? It does make a difference!

Have a great Summer Week! Father Brian

Trabajo: 3.18 horas. Viendo TV / Videos: 2.82 horas. Comer y beber: 1.22 horas.

Padre Brian
