Approval for NKU BSW Student Requires:
Field Supervisor (FS):1. Must have BSW + 2 yrs exp or MSW2. Provide minimum of one hour/week of
face to face supervision to student3. Offer (with agency) learning experiences
required on learning contract4. FS, agency and student must agree on
placement5. SW Field Director (NKU) must approve

What to Expect
• Students complete 400 hours in 4 months.
• Translates to 25 hrs./week for 16 weeks
• Practicum is either fall or spring, not summer
• Generalist focus with micro and macro
• Students need support, supervision, and weekly evaluative feedback
• Students must complete tasks and learning outcomes on learning contract

How to Use the Learning Contract
With New Students:
• Review required learning outcomes and tasks• Do you or student want to add to contract?• Learning Contract Signatures
In Ongoing Supervision:
• Use as tool to guide learning experience• Provide evaluative feedback to student on ongoing basis
• Evaluation is on learning outcomes( tasks support learning outcomes)
• Evaluate after first 200 hrs. completed
• Then evaluate after total of 400 hrs. completed
• Use rubric to understand evaluative categories i.e. needs improvement, novice, apprentice, independent, proficient

Service Learning
Identify and take responsibility for a service-learning project in collaboration with the field placement agencyTasks
1. Identify, in supervision, a service-learning project that meets a community need.2. Student completes the project 3. Writes reflection on the service learning to be reviewed with field supervisor 4.Reflection:how service-learning provided a deeper understanding of course content, linkage of service learning to 3 selected learning outcomes, and reflect “an enhanced sense of civic responsibility, and/or a greater interest in and understanding of community life.”
