Welcome Fr. Jose! I am pleased and blessed to announce the arrival of Fr. Jose to our faith community! As you will read below he is a member of the Carmelite Order. The Carmelites are wonderful religious with a deep spirituality rooted in St. Theresa of Avila, St. Therese, and so many other Carmelite saints. Father has had a wide array of ministries and experiences. Please share with him your St. Thomas More welcome! Fr. Jose (pronounced phonetically as ‘Joze’) will be a “resident” priest. This means while he will be assisting here in our liturgies and a part of our family, his primary ministry will be to serve as a full-time judge on the Tribunal. This ministry is in large part a journey of healing for those who have experienced the break down of a marriage and are seeking an annulment that seeks grounds to show that the teaching of Christ shows that a marriage was non sacramental. Those that petition for an annulment desire to stay in full communion with the Catholic Church. Let us pray for Fr. Jose’s ministry and may his presence remind us to pray for the healing and peace of our brothers and sisters who are suffering. Fr. Taillon

Fr. Jose Joseph Parathanal CMI Fr. Jose Parathanal was born on May 17, 1960 in the state of Kerala, India as the fourth child of Mr. Joseph and Anna Parathanal, among their six children. He is blessed to be born in a very religious family having almost 35 nuns and 15 priests in his close relations. Soon after the 10th grade, Jose joined the North Indian Mission Province of the religious congregation, Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) in 1977. He made the profession of the religious vows in the CMI Congregation in 1982, and was ordained priest on December 29, 1990. Fr. Jose served the CMI Bijnor Province and Bijnor Diocese in various capacities: Vocation Director for both Carmelites Community and Bijnor diocese; Rector of the minor seminarians of the Carmelites; Priest in charge of different mission stations in the Himalayan regions of North India; member and Secretary of Priests Council of the Diocese of Bijnor; member of the Inter-Archdiocesan Marriage Tribunal; Editor of the Province News Bulletin and Formation Coordinator of St. John’s CMI Province, Spiritual Director and Confessor in the formation houses of religious sisters of different religious congregations. Fr Jose Parathanal started his priestly ministry in the United States in 2005 and since then served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Diocese of Brooklyn. Holding degrees both in civil law and Canon Law, Fr Jose has started to work in the Marriage Tribunal of the Diocese of Providence and thus will also be a big help to our St Thomas More parish and St Veronica Chapel.
