I am so pleased to welcome you to the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Association of Law Libraries!
The Conference Planning Committee and our event planners have all been working very hard to prepare a conference for us filled with informative educational programming and exciting social events. Planning a conference of this size takes several years and the time and commitment of several dedicated CALL/ACBD members! Be sure to thank the CPC for their hard work this year!
Our conference also offers the opportunity to visit with vendors to learn about their latest products and services. A full list of exhibitors and sponsors is available on the website. Our conference would not take place without their continuing support so please be sure to visit the Exhibit Hall and to thank our sponsors and exhibitors at every opportunity!
I am also looking forward to the social events; there are some exciting events planned which will give all visitors the chance to experience local culture and flavours!
The business meetings and the Annual General Meeting are also important opportunities to hear about how the association is governed and the initiatives that have been undertaken this past year.
CALL/ACBD has a proud tradition as an important network of law library professionals, and our greatness derives from the ideas and commitment of each individual member. Participating in conference activities can be a great source of inspiration, so as you participate in this year’s business meetings, educational programs and social events, remember that the Board welcomes your ideas!
Perhaps you have an idea for an educational program, or a new program or service; or perhaps you have a suggestion for improvements to program delivery? CALL/ACBD is your network - make it your own!
I look forward to having a chance to meet with you!

WELCOME LETTERWELCOME TO MONCTON FROM THE PRESIDENT
Welcome to the 53rd Annual Canadian Association of Law Libraries Conference! On behalf of the Planning Committee, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Moncton!
TURNING THE TIDE / RENVERSER LA MARÉE is our theme. This year’s program is built on the ways in which libraries are confronting today’s economic realities and successfully turning the tide. The professional development pillars, as defined by the CALL/ADCC executive, are the foundation of the program’s education sessions. In these sessions, we will explore how the law and law libraries can be transformative in nature and look to the future to develop solutions ahead of the waves.
Nestled between the highest tides in the world along the Bay of Fundy and the home of the world’s largest lobster in Shediac, Moncton lives up to its motto: Resurgo. This Latin word meaning “I rise again”, embodies the spirit of Monctonians. Resurgo Place, the venue chosen for our opening, depicts the city’s deep roots in the transportation industry in its permanent exhibit in the Moncton Museum, as well as in its interactive Transportation Discovery Center. The 125th anniversary of Moncton’s incorporation is also showcased. During the closing reception in Shediac, you will discover a part of our “joie de vivre acadienne”; this Maritime experience will have you tasting more than just seafood!
Amongst the new and innovative initiatives at the conference this year are the “Lightning Talks” on Sunday; these brief sessions promise to be punchy and entertaining. I am also pleased that The Law Society of New Brunswick accredited some of our sessions for its Mandatory Continuing Professional Development program for lawyers of this province. Finally, we secured funding through Heritage Canada for the provision of simultaneous translation for the sessions being presented in French in this bilingual city and province.
Hosting this conference would not be possible without the collaboration and talent of numerous colleagues. I extend my sincere thank you to the CPC members Cathy, Hélène, Iain, Janet, Julie, John, Marilyn, Michèle, Pam, Susan and Tanya. A special thanks goes to Taylor and Dory in the National Office! The guidance and support from the CALL/ADCC executive was indispensable. The support from our sponsors and exhibitors made decisions easier.
Enjoy the conference and let the sound of the tide’s waves carry you away!Jeanne MaddixChair, 2015 CALL/ACBD Conference Planning Committee
